The main color palette of this Gongsun Li Cosplay Smoke of Partings outfit consists of ivory white and ink gray, spliced with dark red and peacock blue detailed accents. Visually, it embodies traditional Chinese artistic imagery while remaining ethereal and graceful. To replicate the circular horn-shaped hair bun of the wig, the stylist put a lot of effort into setting the shape, ensuring clear layering while preventing it from looking top-heavy after adding red beads and gold hair accessories. For makeup, to fit the character's mythical aura, I chose light blue contact lenses. The eye makeup focused on deepening the contours at the outer corners, paired with subtle blush, striving to make the eyes convey a cool, story-filled expression—especially under lighting, where the texture of the pupils really shines.
The atmosphere at the shooting venue was actually fantastic. Indoors, carved wooden window grilles and paper lanterns glowing with warm light were primarily used as backdrops, offering both deep shadow contrast and an ancient, elegant charm. Holding the large umbrella adorned with blue ink-wash totems, combined with the lightweight tulle fabrics on the outfit, turning around or looking back slightly created a wonderful sense of fluid movement. Besides the oil-paper umbrella, the flute prop used in the second photo had great texture. Sitting on a wooden chair playing the flute horizontally made my overall demeanor feel much quieter and softer, creating a nice contrast with the dynamic scenes before.
The most challenging part of this styling actually lay in coordinating props with ribbons. Whether holding the umbrella or the flute, I had to constantly ensure the colorful ribbons on the skirt didn't get tangled messily. When shooting the night scene photo, a giant full moon served as the background, surrounded by clusters of yellow flowers. Combined with the lighting set up in the dark, it exuded a dreamy xianxia vibe. I'm very satisfied with the final Cosplay photography results, as the demeanor and emotion from my early character interpretation were seamlessly integrated into the setting. Experiencing this unique Smoke of Partings cosplay allowed me to accumulate plenty of insights into pose design and lighting coordination, which I feel are well worth sharing with everyone.
