For this shoot, we selected iconic motifs of Xiao Wu from Soul Land and integrated the Mid-Autumn Festival Jade Rabbit concept. To bring this Jade Rabbit cosplay theme to life, substantial dedication went into styling and prop curation beforehand. For the headpiece, oversized pink plush rabbit ears were chosen, bridged at the base with a matching bow that flattered the cranial silhouette while enhancing bunny mimicry. The costume revolved around a harmonious pink-and-yellow palette: the top featured an off-the-shoulder cut combined with a white lace-trimmed high neckline, elevating structural layering while letting bare collarbone lines evoke an airy grace. An orange carrot brooch pinned across the chest paid playful homage to a rabbit's favorite treat—an irresistibly sweet detail within the ensemble.
For the lower half, matching snug cropped capri pants with scalloped orange trim visually elongated leg proportions. To complement the organic styling, I went barefoot, sitting upon the rug before a vintage blue velvet sofa and exploring varied seated postures to exhibit the garment's craftsmanship. The surrounding set design revolved around Mid-Autumn festivities and fairytale warmth, stacked high with baby-blue and pastel-pink gift boxes, tiered dessert stands, and tea sets. Plushies and layered pink throw pillows crafted a cozy, heartwarming holiday retreat.
Regarding makeup, to capture 2D anime qualities, eye contours were widened, paired with black contact lenses and generous pink blush across both cheeks to recreate the character's spirited, coquettish charm. The session prioritized organic interactions with the staging—whether holding a small gift box with one hand or reclining effortlessly, maintaining relaxed composure was essential. Releasing this Jade Rabbit set for the Mid-Autumn Festival serves as a rewarding culmination of my preparation.
Many assume cosplay is merely putting on clothes for snapshots, but every facet—from wardrobe tailoring and makeup design to on-set communication and postural recalibration—demands genuine dedication. Non-daily silhouettes require constant fine-tuning to appear natural while accentuating character identity. The snug cuff bindings of this outfit required special attention during seated poses to avoid unflattering creasing while preserving fluid movement. The weight of the headwear also placed strain on my neck over hours of shooting, yet seeing the final frames made every effort worthwhile. I strove to radiate playful vivacity, breathing life into the composition through expressive eyes and body language.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is a celebration of reunion, and I wished to convey warmth through this portrayal. The Jade Rabbit carries auspicious, endearing symbolism; uniting it with Xiao Wu was an exciting cultural fusion for this traditional holiday. Both the chromatic harmony and the soft lighting aligned with a gentle, sweet tone to ensure complete aesthetic cohesion. I look forward to exploring even more diverse character interpretations in the future.
