Getting straight to the point to share the finished Soul Land Xiao Wu cosplay. For this shoot, I prepared two outfits, mainly centered on showcasing the character's personality traits across different periods. One is a pink and white long dress with plenty of silver chains and ruffle decorations, paired with stiff Bunny ears carrying a slight metallic sheen, looking gorgeous and textured overall. The other is a pink crop top and mini skirt paired with purple thigh-high Stockings, complemented by fluffy Bunny ears, focusing on a playful, cute, and energetic vibe. The shooting location was chosen at a place with a traditional Chinese wooden corridor and vast bamboo groves; this classical garden background is perfect for Chinese animation/comics characters, beautifully highlighting the visual contrast of the pink-and-white color palette on the outfit. The light changed considerably on the day of the shoot, with bright and dark spots along the corridor, so we put a lot of effort into lighting and photo retouching to brighten the facial contours while preserving the deep greenery of the bamboo forest and the authentic texture of the wooden railings. In terms of poses, to work with the wooden pillars in the garden, my partner and I designed actions like leaning against pillars and exchanging glances. Having sparring interactions on the side adds a sense of storytelling to the frame, avoiding simple static standing. Personally, I feel the mini skirt and Stockings look turned out fantastic; the thigh-high Stockings flatter the leg shape nicely, and paired with the mini skirt and Bunny ears, the leg lines and overall proportions look exceptionally great in full-body shots. The shoot also involved placing arms naturally to make the shoulders look straighter. For makeup, to match the character's nimbleness, I specifically did an innocent puppy-eye makeup. Head accessories are also very important: different Bunny ears materials correspond to different costume styles—fluffy bunny ears give a more youthful look, while glossy bunny ears paired with silver headpieces look more exquisite. We brought several different lenses for this shoot; close-up shots clearly show the details of the Bunny ears and hair strands, while medium shots fully display the overall effect of the two different dresses paired with long legs in Stockings. Taking advantage of the height differences in the garden, we also took some low-angle and eye-level shots to make the framing more dynamic and avoid looking too plain. The lines of Chinese architecture colliding with the lines of the costume create rich visual layering. My biggest takeaway after finishing this photo set is that being able to restore Xiao Wu in my heart through costume, makeup, and prop details along with the transformation of lens language, and sharing the character's charm in my eyes with everyone, is a truly joyful experience.
