The lighting of the Haikou AD04 Comic Convention shone on that pink-and-white uniform. Wearing this Neverness to Everness Chiz Pink Paw Bank lobby manager styling in person really has a lot of presence. I believe many people's first reaction when seeing my outfit at the scene was: why is the lobby manager doing business at a comic convention? Actually, to prepare this outfit, I barely slept the night before, constantly organizing the wrinkles on the skirt and the connecting straps on the back. I arrived at the venue very early in the morning and, taking advantage of the sparse crowd, shot some opening photos outside. The morning light was relatively soft, which is great for showcasing the metallic texture of the clothing.
It took about a month to make this outfit and props, from the work badge at the waist to the complex mechanical wing structure on the back. Every detail was restored as much as possible, hoping to present a Chiz with a sense of workplace vibe yet full of futuristic elements at the comic convention site. Doing makeup and wearing the wig was also meticulous work; the height and arc of the pink twin-tails were adjusted for a long time, along with the cross hair accessory with mechanical elements, before finally being finalized. The head accessories couldn't be too heavy, otherwise the cervical spine would feel extremely uncomfortable after a whole day, so the props were made as lightweight as possible in material selection, while the surface still needed to maintain a visual presentation of metallic luster.
That huge prop weapon is the core of this styling; holding it in hand is actually very heavy, but in front of the lens, I still had to maintain a light posture, which tests arm strength and core strength. White over-the-knee boots matched with bright pink platform heels—although walking is quite tiring, the visual proportion is indeed stretched very long, and I had to grit my teeth and persist for the effect. The device on the back is fixed to the body by straps and required a long time of adjustment to ensure it wouldn't slide down. Many people who came up to me for photos stared at that black spherical decoration with big eyes. The material used for that part is quite special, and it will reflect under the light, resulting in a very nice photo effect.
Walking around the venue, many people noticed this styling, and I met quite a few fellow fans who recognized Neverness to Everness Chiz. Although the 'dollar' bills I promised to bring for everyone were prop coins, they were basically all handed out. Everyone interacted together at the booth, and some even joked asking if the lobby manager could help open a VIP account. This kind of on-site communication atmosphere is exceptionally good, and everyone's evaluation of my outfit was also very positive, with some even coming over to ask carefully about the manufacturing materials of certain props. Even though standing all afternoon with such high shoe soles left the soles of my feet very sore, as long as I heard someone praising how well-made the outfit was, my energy immediately came back.
Photographer Xiong Du Xashan was squeezed dry by me throughout the whole process this time, even editing photos overnight. There was just a layer of reflection on the venue floor, and we used this condition to shoot many reflected-angle pictures. To capture dynamic poses, such as lifting one leg or half-squatting, we tried back and forth many times just to pick out the most tense frame. Although the final photos turned out really cool, at that time, in order to stabilize my center of gravity and the balance of the weapon, I was secretly fighting hard within myself. The color tone of this set of photos leans overall towards pink-white. To highlight the theme, we tried our best to retain the light and shadow texture of the raw photos during post-processing, avoiding excessive skin smoothing, and instead keeping the original material texture of the clothing. The charm of convention photos lies in their authenticity, especially under complex ambient lighting like a comic convention, capturing lively moments is extremely difficult, which is also a test of the cooperation level between the photographer and the cosplayer.
As a Neverness to Everness fan creation styling, being able to incorporate the element of 999 Nights into it was also hoping to showcase a different style at the comic convention. A complete cosplay is not just about putting on a piece of clothing, but also includes the comprehensive presentation of character state and prop details. From the initial conception of this styling, to selecting fabrics, making patterns, creating props, and then wearing it to walk around the comic convention site, this process was full of challenges, but also extremely fulfilling. This time at the Haikou AD Comic Convention, I harvested a very substantial experience and also shot satisfying convention photos. I hope my small personal effort can make more people feel the charm of this character.
