Materializing belief before the camera lens, this time I bring you this Wuthering Waves Lupa cosplay look. From the moment I decided to portray this character, I had been eagerly looking forward to the final photos, because this outfit possesses a strong red-and-white color palette and metallic texture, creating a highly captivating contrast under the photoshoot studio lights.
Let's first talk about the details of the costume. The upper body uses a tight-fitting material with a pure white base, pieced together with multiple layers of silver-gray armor parts that have a metallic texture. To stay close to the character setting, the shoulder armor and arm bracers were given a lot of detailed paintwork and angular treatments; although wearing them was certainly not light, putting them on instantly boosted the character's aura. The lower body's integrated design of white pants and boots beautifully shapes the leg lines, looking slim and sharp before the lens. What I love the most is that bright red long ribbon tied behind the waist; it is not only the visual centerpiece of the entire look, but when shooting dynamic poses, its slightly raised angle instantly adds combat tension.
Next up is the prop set. We prepared the iconic red long-staff weapon and a pair of hand-held red short blades. In Image 1, we attempted an airborne posture using the long-staff prop; even without professional wire support, relying on the photographer's sharp snapshot of the moment and my own physical exertion, we still managed to showcase the momentum of wielding the weapon. Image 2 switches to the dual short blades, where the sitting posture composition combined with a low-angle shot makes the character appear more confident and calm.
For makeup, I focused on enhancing the depth of the eye makeup, paired with light blue-gray contact lenses, to restore that fierce yet firm expression. The pink wig underwent special styling similar to double hair buns, with the hair strands showing a soft fluffiness under the lights. To withstand the harsh light from the numerous studio lamps on site, a matte setting was applied before going on camera to make the facial contours look more three-dimensional.
This cosplay photography session was in collaboration with WiFi-sensei. The venue on site was quite open; in the background of Image 2, you can clearly see multiple sets of fill-light equipment set up. It is precisely thanks to this cool-toned professional studio shooting environment that the character's metallic armor exhibits a very strong sci-fi and gritty feel. During the shoot, we tried various positionings, such as the pose in Image 2 with one hand supporting on the ground and legs stretching crosswise front and back; this heavily tests physical flexibility, but it was completely worth it to capture the perfect moment.
For post-processing, I didn't apply too much smoothing; instead, I retained the high contrast and crisp texture of the frame to make the fabric patterns and the sheen on the weapons look more authentic. Doing anime cosplay has never been just about putting on a set of clothes; it's a process of internal dialogue with the character. Being able to showcase another side of the character before the lens gives me a great sense of fulfillment. I hope to convey this feelingācarrying a bit of an edge while still retaining the character's original traitsāto everyone, and I look forward to more distinct and challenging styling attempts like this in the future. This shoot was incredibly satisfying; we kept fine-tuning details throughout the process, which ultimately brought about this set of photos that I personally love very much.
