At this convention, I finally got to bring out Iochi Mari's Idol Mari performance outfit. From having the costume custom-tailored to the actual shoot took about a month of prep, and I'm personally very satisfied with the overall fidelity.

First, regarding costume details: the top features a grey-and-black color-blocked corseted bodice with rigid boning inside for structure, requiring someone to help zip up the back. The bright yellow neckerchief on the chest is the visual highlight—its lustrous satin fabric looked fantastic under the venue overhead lights. The detached sleeves are black-and-grey flared bell sleeves trimmed with white lace ruffles. The black flared skirt on the bottom has immense volume, adorned with sprawling white geometric petal patterns. To maintain this silhouette, it was layered over a petticoat and multi-tiered greyish-white ruffled lining. The plush animal ears headband, accented with a black-and-white ribbon band alongside the orange-gold wig, gave the styling strong presence.

For makeup, I used blue contact lenses specifically to match the character, deepening the contours at the outer corners of the eyes and choosing a natural lip color. To capture an idol's performance state on stage, I brought along a black wireless prop microphone.

The convention was packed on shoot day. To find a cleaner backdrop, we waited until the venue's overhead grid lights turned on and picked a relatively open corner. The photographer brought a softbox, but to preserve the authentic on-site convention energy, we blended it with the hall's cool-toned ambient overhead lighting. The softly blurred camera gear and passing crowds in the background lent that unique, lively convention charm.

Posing focused on channeling the dynamic energy of an idol stage performance. The first shot was seated on a folding chair, one foot lightly tapping the floor, holding the mic by my side with one hand while the other gently touched the hair strand near my cheek. The second was standing and lifting the skirt, kicking one leg slightly back to showcase the leg contours and layered hemline tiers. The third went full stage performance: one hand raised high, the other holding the mic to my chest, eyes locked onto the lens. Wearing seamed black stockings with black high heels meant my leg muscles were actively engaged throughout these poses; after walking the convention all day my soles were aching, but seeing the finished photos made every bit of effort worthwhile.

The overall palette leans cool, blending with the black-and-grey costume tones for a crisp, poised aesthetic. While convention hall photography is always constrained by space and lighting, leveraging the environment alongside expressive posing can achieve high-fidelity visuals. This shoot wrapped up successfully; if given the chance later on, I might consider doing a dedicated studio version of this outfit.
