[Yangyang cosplay] Wuthering Waves: Yangyang Xuanling Cosplay — As If an Old Friend Has Returned

When shooting this "As If an Old Friend Has Returned" set, the most thought-provoking aspect was harmonizing the makeup with the lighting. The eye makeup paired blue contacts with a reddish-pink blend, while the wig featured a black-to-blue gradient with a subtle ahoge strand. The outfit consisted of a loose semi-sheer outer robe over a form-fitting black base, adorned with blue feathers at the shoulders and neck, rubies and white tassels at the waist, and high boots with numerous metal buckles. Posing with the brush and paper needed to look as if writing something, whereas holding the sword demanded crisp sharpness. In terms of movement design, I experimented with both quiet sitting poses and dynamic sword-wielding stances—focusing on calm eyes for static shots and intentionally adjusting the blade position during dynamic ones to ensure stable framing. That mark on my leg is a tattoo sticker which, paired with high-heeled tall boots, echoed the position of the skirt hem nicely during the shoot. This kind of Traditional style cosplay with fantasy elements typically features many small accessories, such as feathers, tassels, metal chains, and cutout designs. They easily tangle during shooting, so when posing, you have to ensure loose edges don't block key designs. The calligraphy brush and letter paper props added narrative depth; I tried to make it look like someone reading through old letters in the night. For lighting, warm yellow lanterns were paired with cooler blue ambient light; this contrast against the wooden lattice window backdrop created rich depth and matched the cool, serene theme. In post-processing, I prioritized preserving the red and blue elements alongside feather textures, maintaining dimensional facial light and shadow. Prior to shooting, I drew inspiration from classic portrait ideas—keeping movements subtle, aligning turns, leans, and sword raises with the rhythm of breathing. In styling, feather accessories had to be arranged to stay fluffy yet tidy, and ribbon curves were smoothed before each pose to ensure better visual flow in the frame. Shooting this style always tests your patience with prop and costume details. For instance, holding the letter and brush shouldn't be too tight to prevent wrinkling the paper. The sword had a moderate weight with great swinging texture, though I had to be careful not to let the tassel strike my face. The Xuanling outfit's waistline is quite tailored and easy to move in, but it also required finding optimal angles to showcase leg lines. To evoke that familiar sense of melancholy and serene coolness, the gaze needed to be subtly distant without looking completely blank. Working alongside the Cosplay photography team's lighting, we dedicatedly completed this shoot, faithfully recreating everything from subtle jacquard fabric patterns to hair sheen. Photography is all about storytelling through light and shadow; in post-production, I simply balanced the warm-cool contrast and preserved shadow textures without exaggerated alterations to achieve this layered finish. This is what makes creating traditional or fantasy characters so rewarding—rich in detail yet manageable. Hope everyone enjoys this authentic visual result.
