[Seele cosplay] Honkai Impact 3rd: Black Seele's Dark Night Crimson Makeup - Image 1

This shoot at the TGS2025 event venue serves as a phase log for this darkened-style Seele look. From early conceptualization to the final photos, the amount of prep work was actually quite substantial. Especially for this costume's layers and material textures, capturing the ideal effect requires a bit of patience in a venue like an anime convention filled with ambient light and complex backdrops.

Let's first talk about the wearing experience of this look. The biggest difficulty lies in the metallic-textured armor parts. To recreate the heavy yet flexible visual effect from the game setting, the pauldrons, bracers, and waist faulds all underwent extensive three-dimensional structural processing, using materials with subtle textures to simulate battle damage or weathering effects. Wearing it in reality definitely has some weight, especially at an event like TGS where you need to walk and stand for long periods; it was physically more exhausting than imagined. But that is exactly the charm of cosplay. Once the entire outfit is fully put on, paired with the styled wig and specific makeup, the character's unique aura naturally guides your expressions and movements.

Regarding the makeup, the focus lies on the eye makeup and the facial markings. Black Seele's iconic red pupils are highly eye-catching in front of the lens. To maintain this sharpness in the gaze, I went deeper with the eyeshadow blending and eyeliner contouring. The decorations on the left side of the forehead and the marking details on the cheek were also strictly recreated according to the setting, which are key details for elevating the overall character accuracy. Meanwhile, the red highlights at the ends of the hair echo the red accents on the costume beautifully, preventing the overall dark black-and-grey palette from looking too visually dull.

Regarding the shooting environment, as a large-scale gaming convention, TGS attracts massive crowds, making it quite difficult to find a relatively clean backdrop that can highlight the character's temperament. The lighting on-site is usually overhead or mixed light sources, which demands strong lighting skills from the photographer while testing the cosplayer's control over their own silhouettes and shadows. This final set of photos retains the exhibition hall's unique industrial background; the presence of metal guardrails and pillars actually accentuates the character's cold and capable nature through professional anime-style photography.

Communication with the photographer during the shoot was highly efficient. Under the premise of guaranteeing the character's tsundere and calm inner personality core, we experimented with a few different types of body language. For instance, this freeze-frame pose of lightly touching my lips perfectly uses the heaviness of the arm armor to contrast with the slenderness of my facial contour. At the same time, the gaze locks directly into the camera, enhancing the interaction of the image. The material difference between the tight-fitting base top and the draped red skirt below also provided nice light and shadow variations in motion.

Regarding the post-processing and maintenance of this costume, for an outfit with such a complex structure and numerous accessories, packing and storing everything after a full day of convention shooting is a massive project. Every single photoshoot, whether it is researching costume details or pondering the character's personality, is a learning process. For future cosplay plans, I will still prioritize characters that are challenging in style and can bring visual breakthroughs. Although this TGS trip was exhausting, it is precisely within this diverse anime convention cultural atmosphere that more creative inspiration can collide with fellow fans and photographers, allowing the photos to not only stay on the screen itself but also contain an understanding of the character and the work.
