[Yixuan Cosplay] A Lazy Afternoon at Zenless Zone Zero's Random Play

Taking advantage of a shoot gap on April 12, photographer Wuyue-laoshi and I returned to the all-too-familiar Random Play scene. This studio setup has a strong taste of Zenless Zone Zero's everyday street block—red bricks on the wall, hanging signboards, that old-fashioned rotary dial phone, as well as vintage items and typewriters stacked on shelves, all restoring that slightly retro yet lived-in texture from the game. Stepping into this space, the feeling of the character was almost immediately in place, because as that warm yellow lighting cast down, it was particularly suited for expressing that serene yet slightly mysterious temperament in Yixuan.

A lot of thought went into the details of the final look this time. The wig used long silver-white hair closely fitting character settings; trimming the bangs and sideburns was coordinated with that iconic black hairpiece atop the head, while the eye makeup emphasized sharpness of lines to give her a calm, effortless gaze before the camera. For attire, a classic deep blue color-blocked jacket was chosen, embellished with gold and stripe elements, featuring strong structural definition at the collar and cuffs, paired with a white miniskirt for a sleek overall look. Of course, what I really loved in the entire look was the pairing of stockings and high heels: sheer black stockings had a wonderful luster under warm lighting, flattering leg lines without looking stiff on camera. Combined with glossy black high heels, the focus of the whole body rested on leg lines, carrying an inherently elegant and confident aura.

Photo output efficiency on shooting day was very high, as Wuyue-laoshi is extremely adept at capturing demeanors within retro atmospheres. We changed several positions and poses to enrich the visual range: the first set was standing leaning against a wire mesh cage, with relaxed hand poses to reveal the character's usual lazy, casual everyday feel; later we moved to the main couch scene, sitting on the dark brown leather sofa holding a rounded glass goblet with legs naturally crossed. The light, shadows, and action transitions in these snapshots felt exceptionally smooth, balancing Yixuan's composure as a master with her relaxed everyday state nicely. Since this scene inherently carries strong narrative storytelling, prop interactions became finishing touches—like when I later sat on the couch holding a game controller alongside a yellow-and-white cartoon mascot plushie, instantly making the image lively, looking just like a daily routine of slacking off after working overtime in a game store.

When representing this character, I didn't intentionally chase a tough, rigid "master" vibe, but rather wanted to highlight that relaxed indifference imbued with everyday life. The character Yixuan herself possesses a great sense of contrast within the world of Zenless Zone Zero, so throughout the entire shoot, I felt expressions and body language didn't need to be exaggerated; paired with ambient warm light, quietly and intently looking into the lens conveyed her unique charm better instead. To match the mood of these photos, I also tried compositions and angles I rarely do usually, such as sitting with legs crossed to stretch lines, which truly elevated image proportions to the maximum. Looking back at this cosplay photoshoot set, styling and atmosphere blended together just right. The working atmosphere on April 12 was indeed very comfortable, and the final results exceeded my expectations. I hope this set allows everyone to feel that in a familiar game store corner of Zenless Zone Zero, Master Yixuan is relaxing and leisurely passing time.
