The Plum Blossom Garden instructor is in position! I sorted through last year's convention photos and decided to share them as a little warm-up ahead of the Comicup convention. With just a few days left before the expo kicks off, I've scheduled full attendance across both days this year. You should be able to spot a wild instructor roaming around the venue, and I'm super excited to share new fun antics and styling with everyone this year.
Looking back at this look shot last year, a lot of thought went into the costume and prop details. The long silver-gray hair paired with fluffy animal ears, crowned by that iconic floating blue halo, instantly boosted character recognition. For the outfit, an altered trench coat-style jacket featuring black fabric with white vertical pinstripes was chosen, with a red Chinese knot at the collar providing a pop of color. The cold-shoulder cutouts and detachable arm sleeves, adorned with white floral motifs printed on the cuffs, gave the garment a crisp, capable silhouette with a cool, refined touch. The lower half paired a white pleated miniskirt with chunky black-and-white sneakers, making the overall proportions appear sleek and slender. The visual elongation of the legs, in particular, was nicely showcased across various standing and kneeling shots.
The long, light-purple prop rifle in hand was another major highlight of the entire ensemble. The white coating along the body, black grip, and gold line accents were remarkably faithful to the design. Posing with it across various aiming or striding stances truly evoked the crisp, valiant presence of a combat instructor. Looking back at that day's shoot, I tried different poses under the venue's lighting. Whether focusing while kneeling on one knee with the rifle ready, standing confidently with hands on hips, or sitting on the floor resting my chin in my hand while spacing out, each pose effectively brought out different facets of the character's personality. The color grading and lighting felt very natural and pleasant; set against the massive glass curtain wall and clear venue signage, urban aesthetics and 2D anime vibes blended in harmonious balance.
As an experienced cosplayer who has navigated conventions for years, portraying a character I love always feels fresh and exciting. Styling bangs, fine-tuning ear angles, and repeatedly checking if all props are accounted for before heading out the door are mandatory routines. Specifically, to match the character lore, the shoes for this gear have quite thick soles, requiring some balance technique when walking around—yet these behind-the-scenes moments make the entire cosplay journey feel all the warmer.
I'm fully prepared for perfect attendance at this year's Comicup, hoping to run into fellow enthusiasts who share a love for this work. For me, comic cons are not just about showcasing characters, but a grand celebration where one can let loose and revel in shared passion.
