To bring this Swallowtail Phantasm cosplay to life, extensive preparation went into every detail. Upon receiving the costume, my first impression was its rich layering: the outer blue polka-dot skirt and inner white ruffles required meticulous ironing to achieve the ideal volume and puffiness. The positioning of the pink waist cord and metallic belt accessories needed repeated adjustments, as shifting even slightly would throw off the overall silhouette. The silver headband and red heart-shaped hairpiece atop the head were key to securing the look, and I tested several pinning methods to ensure they stayed firmly attached during action shots.
For makeup, to complement the cool tones of the outfit, I selected ice-blue colored contacts. I kept the eye makeup clean with minimal complex eyeshadow, highlighting a pure, luminous gaze. The wig was a short blue bob with subtle light purple and white gradients; trimming the bangs and sideburns allowed the facial profile to mirror the character's design closely.
The most demanding element was undoubtedly the massive scythe prop. To achieve a high-gloss, reflective finish, the blade's surface was polished exceptionally smooth, meaning even tiny specks of dust or fingerprints would be glaringly visible on camera. Moreover, the weapon was voluminous and quite heavy. When performing swings and jumps, engaging my core was essential to maintain balance.
For instance, during the jumping shot—aiming to capture the dynamic moment of the skirt flaring out as the scythe sliced through the air—I had to leap repeatedly in place while controlling leg angles mid-air to showcase the silhouette in gradient stockings. At the same time, holding up the scythe posed quite a test for shoulder and arm endurance. The shot on the ladder was equally intriguing; while appearing relaxed, my thighs remained suspended under continuous tension to counterbalance my upper body and the heavy scythe.
The shooting location suited the battlesuit wonderfully: off-white modern architecture, slatted louver ceilings, and square-tiled floors fostered a crisp, slightly rigid aesthetic. The ambient natural light was quite bright that day, requiring multiple test angles to avoid blown-out highlights. Post-production luminous butterfly effects added a touch of mystery and dreamlike fantasy, perfectly echoing her character lore.
This shoot reinforced my belief that Anime cosplay goes far beyond wearing an outfit—it is about channeling the character's heart before the camera. "Seele wants to become brave like everyone else" kept echoing through my mind. Facing unwieldy props and complex poses, I pushed myself to embody an unwavering, resolute presence. When the final images arrived, every trace of exhaustion melted away. I hope this photo set conveys Seele's blend of gentle warmth and inner resilience, and that you enjoy these attempts at dynamic action and intricate detail.
