When shooting this set of Cyrene Cosplay photoshoots, the initial intention was to freeze the serene yet divine texture of Omphalos. The ending in the original work, "becoming yesterday's tomorrow," touched me deeply. Therefore, when conceiving the emotional expression of this photoset, besides the visual restoration, I hoped even more to transmit the character's sense of gentleness and relief after experiencing the passing of years.
To shape this image, a lot of homework was done on the costume and props. This white-and-purple gradient primary dress adopts a pearlescent fabric, which shows a very natural sense of flow under lighting. The cutout floral and leaf tailoring at the cuffs and waist, combined with the bare shoulder design, looks both lightweight and layered. The light blue floral accessory at the waist is a crowning touch, breaking the monotony of solid colors and echoing the butterfly elements on the headpiece. Furthermore, the hairstyle utilizes a two-tone highlighted pink wig, paired with elf-like ear props and a headpiece featuring pearls and vine structures, giving the overall visual a fantastical feel detached from the real world.
Although the shooting process was exhausting, it was exceptionally interesting. We completed the cosplay photoshoot under two different scenes: one is a pure pink-and-purple studio background, which can maximize the colors of the outfit and the dynamic movement of the skirt hem; the other is a meticulously constructed deep-sea underwater-themed set, featuring a huge white shell chair, semi-translucent suspended jellyfish decorations, and blue glowing materials. Sitting on the shell chair flipping through the book in hand, or closing my eyes to gently sniff the bouquet, the surrounding blue light spots and water wave textures make the entire frame incredibly dreamy. Capturing the dynamic motion of the drifting jellyfish decorations was also a difficult point, requiring repeated adjustments of light angles and shutter timing to make the frame look as if it is truly lifted by currents at the bottom of the sea.
For the makeup, we deliberately kept it translucent and clean, avoiding heavy eye makeup while emphasizing the soft transition of the eyeliner and the pinkish glow of the lips and cheeks in the same color system. This way, combined with the global outfit, it presents a non-aggressive softness in front of the lens. Not only is visual fit required, but body language and demeanor are also challenges to conquer when cosplaying this character. During the shoot, I tried my best to reduce overly flamboyant movements, relying more on gazes and subtle finger gestures to fill the frame with a sense of storytelling, hoping to materialize this restrained yet emotion-filled fragility and romance in this dreamy girly style.
The process of selecting and fine-tuning photos also took a lot of thought, needing both to guarantee the true lustrous quality of the clothing material and to unify the cold-toned dreaminess of the scene. It took nearly a month of tossing around to present this teaser photoset. Although the process was complicated, seeing the final results made all the efforts completely worth it. I hope everyone can feel the dedication I poured into this cosplay through these photos, catch the unique romance belonging to Omphalos, and reap their own share of emotion.
