[Lucy cosplay] Cyberpunk 2077 Convention Photos Shoot Log

The convention photos shoot was scheduled for the afternoon, when the sunlight slanted just right across the concrete floor. Recreating Lucy's look from Cyberpunk 2077 required extensive preparation. The silver-white wig was gradient-dyed from roots to tips to ensure natural highlights when looking up under convention lighting, and I trimmed the bangs myself so they wouldn't obstruct my view while moving around. The red eyeliner is Lucy's signature; paired with cool-toned foundation, it translated effortlessly on camera. The outfit features a blend of matte black fabric and shiny patent leather, with a tailored waistline and red-and-blue accent lines that elevate the overall texture. The hems and boots were reinforced in advance since comfort is crucial when walking around all day.

During the shoot, the photographer and I spent a long time discussing angles. Since I have some posing foundation and the convention venue was packed, standard eye-level shots would inevitably capture the messy crowd in the background. Ultimately, we chose a high-angle, top-down perspective—the one shown in the photo. Combined with reaching a hand forward toward the lens, this angle leveraged optical distortion to draw visual focus onto my posture and dynamic motion, while avoiding bystanders and giving the towering background structures a more intense Cyberpunk style sense of oppression. It took adjusting the reflector to roughly three positions before finding the optimal bounce, rendering the facial lighting dimensional and cold.

There were many other cosplayers at the venue, making for an immersive full-day experience. The costume fabric was breathable but prone to wrinkling, so I had to smooth it out during every break to avoid odd creases and maintain sleek lines. In between shots, I reflected on how the futuristic urban aesthetic of the character relies not only on costume and makeup in reality, but heavily on post-processing visual effects as well. For instance, incorporating the glowing golden dynamic trails into the frame creates that authentic feeling of traversing Night City.

The weather was great. Even though the venue was fairly warm and required frequent makeup touch-ups, I am very satisfied with the overall photo quality. Huge thanks to the photographer for patiently waiting through several moments to catch the ideal light when crowds parted. We did encounter a few hiccups—initially, the large crowd of onlookers made me feel stiff, but gradually working in sync with the photographer helped me settle into a natural, effortless vibe. This slightly hardcore style really caught eyes on the convention floor, drawing many passersby to stop and take pictures. While being photographed made me a bit self-conscious at first, remembering that I was portraying a cyberpunk surviving in a dangerous metropolis helped me embrace the attention.

For future conventions, the gear upgrade focus will likely be the smoothness of the wig's ends—which were slightly frizzy this time—along with experimenting with custom LED lighting props for an even closer match. Managing the whole convention from morning to night is definitely physically demanding, but bringing a beloved character into three dimensions offers an incredible sense of immersion. Looking back at this entire convention photos shoot, I gained valuable insights into Cyberpunk style costume textures, layered makeup, and post-production lighting paths.
