[Cartethyia Cosplay] The Elf Scholar in Wuthering Waves: I Really Love the Costume Details

I finally brought this Cartethyia look from Wuthering Waves to life! Ever since taking on this character, I've been pondering her disposition—not purely cheerful and energetic, but carrying a sense of calm intellect and scholarly charm, while retaining the lively agility of an elf. So for this Cosplay photography session, I put extra effort into my lens gaze and expression. In Photo 2, I deliberately squinted slightly and pointed upward, aiming to convey a wise sense of "solving a mystery." Although the playful perspective in Photo 1 is super charming, the slight head tilt and guiding fingertip in Photo 2 bring a sense of presence that better fits her character in the story.

Let's talk about costume details. For the blue bird headpiece and dangling teardrop earrings, it took a long time to find lightweight materials that stay fixed without blocking line of sight. The black forehead mark was hand-painted, color-adjusted three times to avoid looking stiff. The collar's metal buckle and thin chain felt a bit tight when worn, but were necessary to recreate her intricate sense of restraint. The most tedious part was the blue vine decorations on the chest—not simply glued on, but secured to the black inner top via small magnetic snaps and hidden buttons, requiring extra care during dressing. The white and grey long ribbons are made of semi-sheer chiffon, with gold-and-blue geometric patterns made by a specialized printing factory after several remakes to get it right.

The translucent blue veil cape on her shoulders is one of the souls of this look. Combined with the reddish-brown arm rings, the mix of blue, white, black, gold, and reddish-brown harmonizes surprisingly well. The photographer kept praising how well the veil transmitted light, especially with side lighting making the golden vine patterns glow, immediately elevating the overall aura. The metal chain pendants on the hem were hand-polished, clinking softly while walking; though unheard on camera, the immersive feeling during the shoot was delightful.

We chose a clean blue gradient studio to avoid complex backgrounds, as the costume itself holds plenty of detail. To capture different vibes, Photo 1 features a pose with my hand near my cheek and a slight head tilt for a relaxed private moment. Photo 2 shows a standard pre-battle reasoning gesture, pointing the right index finger skyward. Combined with Blonde with glasses styling, it fuses her scholar and spellcaster identities seamlessly. Many asked why she has glasses—they are the finishing touch to her character setting, adding an approachable, friendly warmth to the distant elf, like a senior student staying up late studying ancient texts in a library.

Styling the wig took considerable time: combing out the golden hair smooth and braiding side cornrows with just the right tension. Between shots, I constantly tidied my bangs and wisps around the Elf ears cosplay setup to ensure hair and headpieces looked best when the shutter snapped. The charm of cosplay lies in these tedious yet fulfilling preparations. Standing in full gear before the camera feels like briefly living inside her world. Between Photo 1 and Photo 2, which gaze feels more like Cartethyia to you? I personally love both!
