[Hoshino Ruby Cosplay] Shining Moments on the Foshan CW Idol Stage - Image 1

Since deciding on Hoshino Ruby for Foshan's 3rd CW D2, I had been eagerly looking forward to the final photos. Now that I have the photos shot by NightDiva, I can share my personal experience of cosplaying this character.

My decision to do Ruby was largely due to her natural stage presence and confident, vibrant idol aura. To recreate this state, I invested a lot of energy into the preparation. First was the long straight golden wig, which had a lot of volume and needed to show natural layers. To keep it fluffy and neat at the busy convention, I spent nearly an hour styling and setting it before heading out. For the hair accessory, the black bow with a pink ribbon is a signature feature of the character; I made a slight modification by adding a sturdier internal frame so it would stand upright on top of my head without needing constant adjustment.

Matching the outfit was a major test of layering and details. The pink-and-white inner top, paired with the navy blue jacket and blue-purple plaid skirt, made the overall color scheme bright and energetic. Particularly, the brown belt with a golden chain and metal buckle at the waist served as a key detail to shape the proportions, tightening the boundary between the upper and lower body very cleanly. The wide white ruffles on the sleeves and gloves definitely added to the stage feel, but walking around the hall required constant tidying to prevent creases. For an idol setting, keeping the clothes neat and smooth is a crucial part of maintaining character state.

The shooting location was the Foshan Anime Convention, and the atmosphere on D2 was incredibly lively. The indoor floor was covered with a vast red carpet, making the background extremely clean and pure. This beautifully set off the high-saturation colors of the costume, making them pop even more. When shooting this set, there was no need to search for complex backdrops; the character's own color tension was enough to carry the entire frame.

For the makeup, I specially enhanced the intensity of the gaze, choosing pinkish-red circle lenses to highlight her occasionally mysterious aura. Blending the eye makeup and elongating the outer corners of the eyes took quite a bit of time. The visual effect of the lenses under the red background appeared even more vivid. For hand gestures, I referenced her classic stage movements, turning back sideways while raising my hand to perform. NightDiva was highly professional at capturing motion, guiding me to keep my shoulders relaxed and gaze focused. The final photo features a beautifully framed high-angle shot, clearly showcasing the overall silhouette and hand gesture details.

Honestly, cosplaying at a live event is highly physically demanding. Carrying a long wig and this heavy outfit for hours around the venue left my back and shoulders quite sore. However, whenever I stepped into the shooting state or was recognized by fellow fans coming over to say hi, the fatigue was instantly replaced by excitement and satisfaction. The greatest charm of cosplay culture is that it brings the vivid vitality of 2D characters into the real world through visible outfits and physical body language. Standing on the red carpet, I couldn't help but imagine how the character would feel if she were truly standing on an idol stage. This mental immersion is a unique joy of character portrayal.

Looking back at this photo captured by NightDiva, the overall light and shadow are beautifully controlled, and the color saturation is exactly the style I like. The golden hair reveals a warm texture under the lights, and the garment fabrics are rendered delicately. This is also thanks to our pre-shoot communication, where we discussed the desired lighting vibe and composition focus, making the actual shoot highly efficient without wasting time.

Attending a live convention like Foshan CW is not just about a photoshoot for me; it's a ritual to connect with fellow fans and experience anime culture. Being able to restore my favorite character with all my strength and record it through the lens brings a massive sense of achievement. I hope to have more opportunities like this to challenge characters of different styles at various conventions in our future Cosplay photography journey.
