[Xishi cosplay] Honor of Kings at Hangzhou Dreamland Anime Convention: Dynamic Glance Back in a White Plush Shawl

Part of the retouched shots from the Hangzhou Dreamland Anime Convention are finally ready, featuring Xishi from Honor of Kings. The hall was packed with crowds, so my photographer and I scouted several loops across the venue to find the right ambient light and clean background framing.

Rather than her typical chiffon dress, this styling featured an oversized white plush shawl that offered fluffy tactile presence in front of the lens. Enduring the stifling heat of the crowded venue was worth it for the visual contrast. The hairstyle took a full day to prepare: blunt bangs with sleek straight black hair, tied into segmented fishtail sections accented by white pom-poms. The pearl accessories and slim violet silk ribbons on the crown were focal accents that floated with every pivot and spin. The lace patterning on the white strapless dress added subtle tactile detail under low-light conditions.

Convention photography is fundamentally a test of finding workable light and executing rapid freeze-frame captures. Overhead spot fixtures risked throwing harsh facial shadows, so we stationed near a pillar, utilizing ceiling lights as a rimming hair light and soft ambient spill from facing booths as facial fill. To capture dynamic vitality, I rehearsed pivot-and-glance movements repeatedly; the over-the-shoulder glance in image three required several attempts to catch the strands suspended mid-air alongside the swinging pom-poms.

Channeling Xishi demands a delicate balance of playfulness and aloofness—locking eyes with the lens with a teasing smirk. Keeping an upright posture highlighted the pearl choker and sweetheart neckline, while wide apertures dissolved the throngs of convention goers into abstract blocks of color, cooled down in post to accentuate a clean, futuristic ambiance in these Cosplay convention photos.
