This Nun cosplay outfit took over half a month of preparation from settling on the theme to the official shoot. Although the costume adopts a minimalist black-and-white color palette, the white ruffles at the neckline and cuffs, combined with the drape of the veil, made the actual wearing experience much heavier than imagined. Especially when walking in the library and corridors for a long time, the hem of the black robe dragged along the floor, forcing me to slow down my pace, which naturally brought out a quiet, solemn gait that perfectly matched the temperament of the scene itself.
The location for this library photoshoot was the library and cloisters of an old academy. The high-ceilinged space was massive, and the lighting conditions were quite extreme—either giant arched windows that were completely backlit, or dim indoor candle holders. We intentionally abandoned using high-power fill lights to forcefully illuminate the subject, relying primarily on natural light and the on-site prop candle holders. The 1st and 6th photos were both taken in front of the same bookshelf facing a large window; the backlighting outlined the entire silhouette exceptionally clearly, while the textures of the book spines and desktop settled into the shadows, a layering that I really adore.
The 2nd photo captured the moment I leaned down to rest. It wasn't actually a posed shot; I was genuinely exhausted after shooting for two hours, and the photographer's shutter caught it just in time. That beam of light happened to hit my hair and the book pages, and the silver candle holder reflected in the dark, creating a strong sense of storytelling. The staircase shots (the 3rd photo) utilized double exposure or multiple figures in the same frame to simulate an illusion of passing through; the patterns on the staircase handrails and the shadows on the ground intertwined, yielding a powerful visual tension.
What surprised me most was the shot in the hall (the 4th photo), where the wooden floor had been polished to a brilliant shine, providing excellent reflections. I walked right into the center of the window, and my backlit silhouette was cast onto the floor. Combined with the colored light filtering through the window panes, the entire frame looked like a symmetrical oil painting. Then there was the chair at the end of the corridor (the 5th photo), where the archway framed a seated silhouette from behind, maximizing the spatial depth.
As a coser, I've always felt that a good Cosplay photoshoot is not just about putting on clothes and posing, but about conversing with the live lighting, architectural textures, and props. This nun-themed shoot featured no exaggerated movements, relying entirely on subtle body language like gazes, bowed heads, and pauses to express the atmosphere. In post-processing, we mainly preserved a cinematic film-like feel, avoiding forcefully lifting the shadows and intentionally compressing the highlights, making the overall tone deep and steady, which aligns better with the serenity and mystery this set of images aims to convey through Gothic photography.
Shooting this collection heavily tested my patience, but seeing the final photos made all the fatigue worthwhile. The photographer's composition and control over light and shadow were highly professional, blending the architectural aesthetics of the venue seamlessly with this classical dark style outfit, making it a satisfying conclusion to this cosplay experience.
