Starting the Sakiko Toyokawa cosplay photoshoot, it all began with this grey-blue wig. The color of this wig is not a highly saturated bright blue, but rather carries a soft grey undertone, giving it a cool texture under indoor lighting. The braided hair on top and the curls on both sides require extra attention to the hair strand direction during wig styling to create a fluffy yet well-fitted layered effect. To align the look closer with the character's vibe, dark green satin bows with woven gold stripes were added to both sides of the wig, which not only accentuated the overall cool tones but also added a touch of refinement.
In terms of makeup, to match the character's temperament, the eye makeup focused heavily on shaping the gaze. I wore medium-diameter amber contact lenses paired with fine black-brown eyeliner, slightly upturned at the outer corners, and applied curled false eyelashes to give the eyes more spirit and a sense of narrative. To balance the cool vibe brought by the grey-blue wig and uniform, I applied a warm-toned blush over a large area under the eyes and across the center of my face, layering it with a micro-shimmer reddish-brown tone. For the lips, I chose a glossy lip glaze with a creamy texture, which isn't too distracting but keeps the makeup looking clean and translucent.
For the costume, this classic deep blue long-sleeved sailor suit outfit is full of a blend of school and band elements. The large white square collar features grey piping along the edges, and the bow tie at the collar is made of grey-and-white fabric. I specifically noticed a thin yellow decorative line under the collar of the garment, which acts as a finishing touch in the actual wear. The dark plaid pleated skirt below is sharply tailored and paired with white mid-calf socks and thick-soled black Mary Jane shoes, which not only visually lengthens the leg proportions but also enhances the overall academic anime style. The crossbody deep blue large canvas bag, with its white wide stripes on the surface, adds a visual focal point and meets the character's casual needs for daily outings.
When checking the effect in front of the full-length mirror after being fully dressed, the completeness among the hairstyle, clothing, and props can be clearly seen. This presentation of a full-body look highly tests the harmony of the overall colors. The combination of grey-blue, deep blue, dark green, black, and white forms a visual effect that is both recognizable and not overly cluttered. From close-up shots capturing facial expression details to a standing full-body presentation, we tried different camera angles during the shoot. To evoke the character's slightly stubborn and tsundere temperament, the expression shouldn't be too warm, but rather maintain a composed and calm demeanor. The use of lighting during the shoot was also crucial; front lighting beautifully restored the luster of the grey-blue wig and the texture of the makeup, while slightly angled perspectives revealed the three-dimensional contours of the face through shadows.
To ensure the final effect of the photoshoot, we not only put effort into the restoration of the makeup and clothing but also paid special attention to ironing the clothes and managing the fluffiness of the wig to avoid any creases or frizz. This styling is not just a stack of clothes and a wig; I hope to convey the character's unique aura through her demeanor and posture. Although the whole process was tiring, seeing all the details presented just right in the final photos gave a great sense of accomplishment. Taking this look out or shooting it is indeed very eye-catching, and whether in front of an indoor background or in real-life convention scenes in the future, I believe it will have great expressiveness. That's all for this styling share; the shooting continues, and I look forward to the final completed photoshoot images.
