This outdoor creation of Katishia features natural light photography, blending the character's elf-like feel with the early summer garden scenery. The look of this blonde elf, paired with a blue headpiece and iconic long elf ears, makes the entire image even more dreamlike as she weaves through the trees.
For this shoot, we specially picked several different locations: from the lawn where sunlight pierces through the leaves, to the white stone-paved curved steps, and then to the fountain side with crystal blue pool water. The collaboration with photographer Teacher Ji Shifeng was seamless. With his masterly capture of light and shadow, the blue and white light tulle on the costume presented a translucent texture under the sun, forming an extremely comfortable visual contrast with the lush green natural tones of the background.
The costume itself has many exquisite details; the black leather decoration at the collar, the pink light armor on the arms, the metal pendant at the collarbone, and the unique styling of the braided plaits were all meticulously restored in this styling session with an atmospheric makeup. The flowing movement of the wig strands under the gentle breeze was also faithfully recorded by the camera. We tried to capture some natural dynamic sense rather than rigid static posing, hoping to convey the calm and casual side of this character.
The few photos by the fountain bring out a serene sense of holiness. When my fingertips touch the water surface, the reflection of the ripples and the blue-and-white elements of the costume echo each other. In the moments of sitting on the steps, lowering my head, and bowing slightly, whether it's the expression in my eyes or the placement of my hands, I hoped to get closer to the character's inherently ethereal temperament.
The shot looking back sideways on the stone railing, and the close-up shot of closing my eyes with palms together under the tree, are also frames that I am personally very satisfied with. The former utilizes a distant depth of field to create a transparent sense of breathing, while the latter brings the perspective close, using soft diffused light to illuminate the facial contours and eye makeup details, presenting a gentle yet resilient beauty.
Overall, this was an attempt that heavily focused on the integration of natural light and shadow during this outdoor photography. On the shooting site, it was much more than just pressing the shutter; I would repeatedly discuss the lighting angles and the placement of the falling streamers with the photographer, all to present a better visual effect for this elf cosplay. I hope everyone can feel my dedication and passion for this character and this outdoor photoshoot through these images.
