While shooting this Umamusume: Pretty Derby Love as Before cosplay set, I kept contemplating that iconic line: 'We'll be together forever... right?' To capture this Yandere indulgence tinged with obsessive, intense devotion, I poured immense energy into everything from hair and wardrobe fabrication to posture refinement on set.
This ensemble features exceptionally rich textural layering. The cold-shoulder red top combined with white detached sleeves and geometric color-blocking across the neckline and bodice yields vibrant chromatic pop. The most arresting accent is the pair of blue conical horns atop the head, framed by a red-and-white headband and a crimson bow for striking visual pull. I was equally thrilled with the craftsmanship of the skirt's red-and-blue paneling and yellow cloud-scroll motifs. To heighten overarching visual tension, I chose black Stockings paired with red platform high heels; the metallic buckles on the shoes tied in with the red leg garters, introducing an alluring, dangerous edge to the cute aesthetic.
In the first shot, I reached one hand directly forward toward the lens, seeking to project a commanding, possessive urge to seize and pull you closer. Placing the camera close to the foreground hand yielded atmospheric depth of field blur, which, paired with the red-and-blue rim lighting, demanded meticulous angle calibration. The second shot, perching on a white cube while raising one leg, is a personal favorite composition. The high heel created an intense foreshortened perspective, allowing the leg contours and the sheer texture of the Stockings to shine under sculpted lighting, while pulling on a red ribbon with one hand added narrative tension—conveying absolute dominion tinged with a quiet invitation. The third seated pose, resting my chin in hand, preserved that sharp contrast of appearing deceptively docile while harboring obsessive fixations beneath.
I was enamored with the lighting design for this session. A deep crimson backdrop paired with harsh side-backlighting not only rimmed the hair contours cleanly, but also enriched the tactile quality of the red, white, and blue fabrics. The crimson contact lenses sparkled with magnetic depth under the strobes. To sustain this Yandere mood, I minimized broad facial reactions, letting subtle gazes and micro-expressions carry the emotional weight through steady, lingering eye contact. Maintaining physical stability while keeping intense emotions continuously engaged indoors is demanding—especially while ensuring the skirt drape remains spread and the Stockings stay perfectly smooth. Yet seeing the final deliverables, that perilous, bewitching mood matched my vision entirely. I cherished every second immersed in Love as Before, and I hope this photo set delivers that exact emotional intensity to you all.
