This photoshoot was captured within the Azur Lane exhibition area at Bilibili World. I had long wanted to experiment with a styling that combines mechanical textures with subtle dark elements, and this convention was the perfect chance to bring that vision to life. The core highlight of this outfit lies in the visual impact created by black-and-white color blocking: the crisp, reflective texture of the black leather jacket forms a dramatic contrast against the soft, voluminous white fur draped over the shoulders. Paired with a metal grommet leather belt at the waist, it beautifully sculpts bodily proportions for a Leather-clad cool older sister aesthetic.
For the wig and makeup, the long pink hair was styled from heat-resistant fibers, smoothed and set with minimal root teasing to retain a natural drape, granting greater mobility while posing. To match the overall fantasy lore, the makeup emphasized multi-dimensional eye depth, paired with pointed elf ears and head horn props. Wearing these accessories requires careful technique—the horns were anchored into the wig using styling glue and transparent fishing line to ensure they wouldn't dislodge amid the high-density foot traffic of a convention. Because the stiff leather collar generated static when rubbing against the wig, carrying anti-static spray was a crucial trick learned from cosplaying leather-clad characters.
The base layer featured a black leather corset whose chest cutout and mesh panels introduced breathability, while the lower half paired leather shorts with sheer black Stockings cosplay. I chose a lightly compressive stocking texture; since the leather pieces are quite heavy, the stockings balanced the lower body's visual weight nicely. On my legs were over-the-knee leather boots adorned with metal thigh straps—details that scored big points in the photos. To avoid a dull appearance, the stockings were selected for high uniformity and a non-reflective finish, working in tandem with the boots to carve out optimal leg contours.
Because convention hall lighting is notoriously chaotic, we specifically scouted a set with a red mecha backdrop. The red ambient glow striking the white plush produced a warm rim light, harmonizing the subject with the environment. Prior to shooting, I briefed the photographer on the desired mood: a blend of languid composure and icy allure. To prevent the red ambient light from causing facial color casts, we set up a cool-white LED fill light directly in front of me, preserving authentic skin tones while highlighting the leather's sheen. Finding an appropriate backdrop at Bilibili World is genuinely exhausting; we navigated several halls before finding this red-and-black mecha element with relatively clean lighting. The zone carried an intrinsic blend of sci-fi grit and moodiness that aligned with the character's aura, and amidst the bustling crowd, we waited out multiple waves of visitors to capture unblocked frames.
Convention shoots are physically demanding. Wearing this outfit and heavy props for an entire day left my shoulders and neck fairly sore. The massive fur stole frequently brushed against passersby and fellow cosplayers in packed corridors, requiring constant vigilance while walking. Moreover, the airtight leather easily trapped heat, though thankfully the venue's air conditioning was adequate to power through. Seeing the final Convention photos made every ounce of effort worthwhile. We communicated continuously regarding angles and fill-light positions, using side-backlighting to outline edges and accentuate the leather's tactile texture. Due to spatial constraints where mecha installations could easily obstruct the subject, we relied heavily on medium and close-up compositions, using leaning and reclining postures to inject dynamic energy into the frame.
Given the thick fabric, bending elbows met noticeable resistance, so I favored open, fluid postures—such as resting one hand on my thigh while the other draped naturally or lightly held the fur—maximizing the clean lines of the outfit. Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable shooting experience, with immense gratitude to the assistants on set who helped arrange my hem and fur stole. Every detail was fine-tuned repeatedly from conception to final delivery to faithfully convey this unique aesthetic.
