This shoot is a concept design convention photo set of Yao from Honor of Kings. From the clothing matching onwards, I discussed with the photographer for a long time. Because it's a concept design, while retaining Yao's original forest style and agility, more pink sweet-girl elements were incorporated. The overall color tone of the outfit is dominated by cherry blossom pink and white; the top was chosen with polka dot hidden patterns, paired with a matching short-sleeve cardigan on the outside to add a bit of layering. The skirt design is relatively complex, splicing pink plaid fabric with white lace trims, and a circle of white plush border was added at the waist. To echo Yao's deer spirit setting, I deliberately hung a small white plush pendant on the belt.
The head styling is one of the key points this time. The wig was chosen in light pink, braided into two fluffy braids, and a pair of pink deer horns and animal ears were worn on top of the head, with some fine beaded chains added to the hair ornaments. In terms of makeup, to match the overall pink tone, the eye makeup used pink-brown with fine shimmers, and the eyelashes were chosen in a more exaggerated style so that they would be more prominent in front of the lens. In addition, the white over-the-knee long socks (stockings) matched this time are also a small highlight, featuring a pink cross-strap pattern on the front and a small bow at the cuff, paired with a pair of pink platform Mary Jane shoes, which elongated the overall proportions a lot.
The shooting venue was chosen as an abandoned factory building. The gray cement floor and rugged pillars naturally bring a cold and hard industrial style, forming a strong visual contrast with the sweet pink styling, and the resulting effect is much better than expected. Since these are convention photos, the lighting mainly relies on the natural light and fill light on-site, and the cool-toned background actually makes the character stand out more.
In action design, to fit Yao's lively personality, I tried to avoid rigid standing. For example, lifting one leg, making hand movements like a small animal scratching, or simply crouching down. These dynamics not only showcase the details of the clothing, but also make the frame look more vital. When posing, the center of gravity must be stable, limbs should be stretched as much as possible, and not huddled together. Especially when wearing these stockings, poses that showcase leg lines score extra points in front of the lens. When shooting, you can try more different angles—front, side, or slightly overhead shots can all capture different feelings. This is my first time trying this concept design cosplay. Although there are still some unfamiliar aspects in posing and costume management, the overall shooting process was very pleasant. Through this coordination, I have also accumulated a lot of shooting experience regarding the sweet style.
