[Yao cosplay] Honor of Kings Anime Convention Hall Shots: Recreating the Pink Braids and Furry Leg Warmers

Having just wrapped this shoot at the Anime convention, I wanted to promptly document the process behind this Yao cosplay from Honor of Kings.

Starting with the wig and cosmetics: the pink wig was custom-commissioned for this project. To create two plump, voluminous braided pigtails, interior padding was inserted beneath the strands, demanding even braid tension to prevent the weave from looking sloppy. For makeup, violet-pink contact lenses served as the anchor, paired with reddish ocular shading. The scarlet tribal markings across the face and freckles stippled over the nose bridge were the true focal points, hand-painted meticulously with a fine detail brush over nearly forty minutes. Eyebrows were intentionally lightened to harmonize with the overall pink aesthetic.

The wardrobe carries intricate details throughout. The top splices crisp white fabric with rustic brown leather, bordered by a dense plush fur collar at the neckline—which added raw primal flair, though it proved rather stifling inside the convention hall. The hexagonal metallic emblem seated dead center on the chest acted as the visual anchor, encircled by red braided cord knots and turquoise beads. Echoing this motif, matching cord knots hung at the waist alongside a suspended cyan feather. The brown mini skirt below featured asymmetrical ragged hemlines, baring the midriff.

For accessories, I wore brown fabric wrist bracers alongside turquoise bangles, paired with black lacquered nails and metallic rings. The plush furry leg warmers were essential for canonical accuracy, yet posed the heaviest physical burden. The fur pile was dense and weighty, and once the straps were cinched down, walking felt cumbersome. The accompanying black chunky platform shoes added height, but finding a stable center of gravity took constant effort.

We scouted a quieter corner with relatively fewer passersby, where the polished floor tiles offered lovely reflective sheen. The opening shot featured a standing pose flashing a peace sign to channel relaxed, bubbly playfulness. The second frame shifted to a seated posture to spotlight the full lower-body coordination and the texture of the furry leg warmers. The photographer snapped the shutter with impeccable timing; bracing my torso against the floor with one arm was physically taxing, yet the resulting image looked stunning.

Overall, the ensemble achieved high fidelity, though wearing it consumed considerable stamina. Should I reprise this character in the future, I would likely improve the leg warmer attachment—perhaps adding anti-slip silicone linings and swapping to a lighter shoe base. Connecting with so many fellow fans who asked for photos and talking about the crafting process made the entire Anime convention experience truly rewarding.
