Today in the studio, I shot the Gymnastics uniform version of Marie from Blue Archive. The classroom desk, the volleyball, and this blue-and-white athletic coordinate came together to create an authentic campus atmosphere. Preparing this photo set took a lot of dedication, all to capture that athletic girl essence Marie embodies so well.

First, about the costume's fidelity: the white long-sleeved jacket features navy color blocking and thin yellow stripes, worn with the zipper half-down for a relaxed, natural flair. Beneath it, the navy athletic shorts paired with knee-high White stockings not only perfectly honor the sporty design, but also visually flatter the legs for a sleek, balanced silhouette. The plush orange-yellow animal ears, white headband, and little green leaf accent on the side are all quintessential features of the character. The wig was styled in a vivid orange-yellow hue, which, combined with bright blue contact lenses, made the character feel instantly alive when checking the mirror after makeup—gradually stepping closer to the character through styling always brings such deep satisfaction.

The volleyball used for the shoot was a prop prepared specifically for this set, featuring green-and-white panels with printed lettering. Because a school desk inherently anchors the scene in an everyday campus mood, the photographer designed numerous seated and kneeling compositions. For the first shot, I sat on the desk with my legs crossed, holding the ball with my right arm while pointing upward with my left hand, aiming for a playful yet confident gaze. It looks effortless, but holding that poised, stretched posture required keeping my core tight and torso slightly tilted to fill the frame naturally. Later, we switched poses while remaining on the desk—gently gathering the jacket with both hands and resting a finger against my chin—focusing on Marie's composed, gentle, and subtly clever charm.

The challenge of this set lay in seamlessly blending the wholesome, energetic mood of a Gymnastics uniform with her animal-eared aesthetic. Merely acting cute would make the visuals feel flat, so I spent considerable time refining my gaze and micro-expressions to keep my eyes lively and dynamic. Poses couldn't be too stiff either; imagining myself as an athletic girl who just wrapped up training and is ready to serve the ball brought out that effortless, organic presence.

The shoot utilized a clean white studio backdrop with high-key lighting. This lighting setup places high demands on garment texture and makeup, as even subtle shadows on the face can appear muddy. When balancing the fill light, we set up large softboxes from the front to ensure an even, luminous complexion, while cleanly outlining the borders of the blue-and-white color blocking for punchy contrast. Color grading in post-processing favored a crisp, cool palette to harmonize with the volleyball and athletic attire.

Looking back at the whole shoot, I truly loved this sporty look; the dynamic range of movement and subtle expressions left ample room for creative interpretation. Every cosplay—from preparing the outfit and testing makeup to tweaking props and communicating with the photographer about lighting—is a process of bridging the distance to the character. I'm very pleased with how this Gymnastics uniform turned out, and I hope everyone can feel Marie's vibrant, athletic charm through the photos.
