This Yao Guang styling features an abundance of layering from the costume to the accessories. In the blue-and-white dress, the most eye-catching elements are the peacock feather-like print patterns. A lot of effort went into lighting arrangements to make the fabric present the best drape and gloss in front of the lens. The metal tassel choker around the neck has quite some weight; to ensure a straight spine, adjusting the sitting posture ran through the entire shooting process. The dark blue-to-purple gradient plush shawl on the left shoulder, under the illumination of warm light sources, magnified the texture of the fur flow, forming a strong material contrast with the stiff metal arm ring.
The scene was intentionally chosen to be a wooden space full of oriental classical charm. The round wooden frame behind, the emerald green bamboo bonsai, and the wooden lattice all laid a calm foundation for the frame. A thick white plush blanket was spread over the daybed, and the visual contrast between the dark wood and the large area of white excellently highlighted the subject of the frame. A celadon vase with white flowers placed on the small wooden table beside it also enriched the background layers.
To better showcase General Rongtao's character setting, quite a few designs were made in body language. For the first sitting pose, the legs are crossed and extended forward, and the design of the silver strappy high-heeled sandals just happened to elongate the visual proportion of the legs. The body leans slightly forward, and the gaze looks straight into the lens, attempting to capture a resolute and highly tense aura. For the second pose, turning slightly sideways, one hand gently caresses the necklace on the neck, echoing the metal wrist ornaments on the hand and the black beads around the ankle, while the backward-leaning posture intends to show the character's lazy yet confident side. The movement amplitude of the third pose is relatively large: arms raised upward, fingers pinched slightly, and gaze lowered. This action was designed to allow the wide skirt hem to spread out naturally, fully expanding the peacock feather pattern, while also making the leg lines appear smoother amidst the overlapping.
During the shoot, it was actually quite difficult for the slim heels to find a footing on the plush blanket, so a large number of sitting poses required core strength support, constantly paying attention to keeping the posture open and upright, avoiding muscle tension that would ruin the costume's fluidity. Makeup emphasized eye contours, and the silver-white short hair needed constant styling adjustments to prevent a messy feel during movement changes.
The costume has many silver piped edges and metal pendants; with slight body movements, these accessories refract different lusters. To capture this texture, I would fine-tune angles under the photographer's guidance so that the reflections fell right on the ruby at the collar and the silver ring on the arm. Switching gazes was also crucial—sometimes sharp and direct, other times relaxed and lowered, cooperating with compositions of different framing distances to present the character's emotions in different states. The bamboo leaves in the background cast mottled shadows under the warm light, adding a touch of authentic breathing feel to the entire space. Finding the best sitting posture on the blanket was not only for aesthetics, but more importantly to stabilize the body's center of gravity, thereby making the upper body more relaxed. The gorgeousness of this styling largely relies on overall coordination; from the arc of the wig to the spread of the skirt hem, every single detail cannot be ignored. The entire shooting process was a continuous process of adjusting light and shadow, costume details, and body angles, allowing every frozen frame to accurately convey the character's temperament.
