Standing on this heap of seaside reef rocks, the wind was indeed strong enough to blow the dress hem into a chaotic mess, but it was precisely in such wind that the unique traits of this outfit fully emerged.
This black dress look was the main choice for this shoot. The high-slit design easily creates a flowing dynamic feel when walking and turning around, which is why I picked this rocky shore as the primary location. The rocks have many sharp edges, and stepping on them really tests one's balance. Especially with these black flat shoes with thin soles, standing on rocks for a long time makes the soles of my feet ache a bit, but to fit the character's vibe, shoes of this height and style were a must. Before heading out, I specially styled the wig so that the emerald green short hair looks fluffy with a slightly messy curl, creating a strong visual impact paired with sleek black attire. The sun was intense during the shoot with almost no shade overhead, providing ample light, though it also easily created harsh facial shadows; we tried many angles to capture moments where both facial and overall light/shadow were balanced.
Speaking of this character, her biggest feature is actually that confident, almost arrogant expression, as well as her aura of standing strong on her own. So when posing, I intentionally did more crossed-arm poses or rested a hand lightly under my chin with a slightly tilted head angle, attempting to bring out that "completely at ease even outdoors" feel. In one photo where I sat on a rock and raised one arm toward the sky, it was actually because I felt the composition and proportion of the sky in that area looked fantastic; combined with a candid shot of the wind fluttering the dress hem, the tension of the entire photo burst out instantly.
Although this outdoor shoot was quite an ordeal—such as the ocean breeze being intensely fierce, blowing hair onto my face or constantly flipping the dress hem so I had to adjust my outfit frequently—the effects of natural light and random wind are things indoor studio shoots can never replace. This sense of authenticity infuses the photos with another layer of vitality. As someone who has been doing Cosplay photography for a long time, I've always felt that natural elements like wind, sunlight, and rocks in outdoor photography serve as supporting props for conveying character personality. Being able to take time out in this weather to shoot Tornado of Terror cosplay this time finally fulfilled my wish to recreate her in an outdoor setting. You can't always shoot cool, aloof characters inside a studio; coming outside to experience a different environment truly enriches overall expressiveness.
These photos didn't require much color adjustment; the raw colors were already quite clean, leaning toward a cool, crisp style. I hope this photo set, infused with a refreshing feel and strong sea breezes, allows everyone to experience a different side of Tatsumaki.
