The sports equipment room is truly a dream location for a gymnastics uniform cosplay theme, and this time I chose to shoot on the vaulting box. Iochi Mari's design in Blue Archive is very special, with a blue-and-white sports short-sleeve shirt and shorts, plus a sports jacket tied around her waist, exuding a sense of youthful energy. It might be hard to find these equipment room elements in an outdoor shoot, but a storage room packed with props actually makes for great photos. For the shoot, I specifically chose an old-looking wooden vaulting box; the red cushion paired with white socks looked full of vitality. There were many sports items in the entire scene: volleyballs, yoga balls, red-and-white hurdles, and even cardboard boxes stacked on shelves. They all added a rich layer of depth and storytelling to the frame, preventing it from looking too empty or monotonous.

As for the lighting, the photographer kept it very soft, making the skin tone look translucent. Under this high-key soft light, the white T-shirt and blue trim looked incredibly clean and refreshing, avoiding harsh shadows and giving the entire frame a Japanese campus style photography vibe. The fabric of this gymnastics uniform feels quite breathable and doesn't reflect glaringly under bright lights. Its texture looks very close to the in-game character art, so when I made various movements under the lights, the wrinkles in the clothes looked very natural. The halo above my head and the animal ear headwear were also very lightweight. They were much more comfortable than heavy metal headpieces, causing no strain on the neck even after wearing them for a long time.

Different poses can showcase entirely different vibes. To match the theme of vitality, I tried my best to choose relaxed sitting poses and playful movements. Sitting on the vaulting box, resting my head on one hand, or letting my legs hang naturally down all helped to visually elongate the legs through high-angle or eye-level perspectives. The white socks were the finishing touch, creating a great color harmony with the blue-and-white striped sports jacket and shorts. I think the biggest advantage of this kind of sporty anime cosplay photo series is the flexibility of movement. Without worrying about the constraints of complex outfits, we could capture many casual moments. During the shoot, we tried several highly interactive poses, like placing a knuckle against the lower lip to pretend to think, or raising the right hand in a salute gesture, which kept the frame both lively and cool.

Blue Archive's art style is inherently highly recognizable. Replicating it in a real setting is quite a test of scene arrangement, but thankfully, a few red-and-white hurdles, some cones, and the mats on the floor completely filled the atmosphere with a daily training vibe. The photographer intentionally kept the red-and-white numbered bibs hanging in the background. The clash of red, blue, and white made the colors of the image more vibrant and vivid without overshadowing the character herself. Since the space in the equipment room was actually quite narrow, it instead created a sense of quiet privacy like a personal locker room or training ground, making it easier for the audience to immerse themselves into the scenario when viewing the photos, breaking away from the conventional routine of outdoor lawn sports photography.

For makeup, I chose a natural, light style that closely matches the character's temperament. The base makeup was thin and natural, emphasizing transparency. For the eyes, I used a light pink eyeshadow close to the pupil color to blend, making the gaze look brighter and softer. The lip color was a dewy peach shade, which enhanced my complexion while adding a touch of feminine softness. As for the hairstyle, the silver-white long hair was very soft, and combined with the bangs and natural sideburns, it replicated the character's innocent yet earnest expression to a great extent. During the shoot, the hardest part was actually controlling the extension of my body, because the surface of the vaulting box was a bit hard, and holding supporting poses for a long time was quite tiring. However, for the final results, we repeatedly tried many different angles.

Through this set of photos, I hope to convey this clean and youth-energy-filled atmosphere. In fact, the gymnastics uniform itself inherently brings a sense of sunshine, and combined with the unique messy beauty of the equipment room, as long as you find the right angle, you can capture a sense of freedom filled with girlishness. This shoot was a very pleasant attempt. It not only utilized the two major elements of the gymnastics uniform and white socks perfectly but also embodied the character's clear, agile, and sporty temperament. As an official cosplay photoshoot, choosing this location was a very wise decision. Actually, a simple sports equipment room like this often makes it easier to capture a sense of life and reality compared to exquisite studio sets. I think this is the charm of anime cosplay—it can break the barrier between the 2D and 3D worlds, expressing abstract settings through concrete images. In the post-processing color grading, we maintained the cleanliness of the original white balance without deliberately adding too many filters, aiming to preserve the true texture of the skin and the original color of the clothes.
