To be honest, I was really looking forward to this Columbina cosplay outfit from Bilei Manwu when I got it, but once I actually wore it on the convention floor, I realized there were quite a few challenges. First of all, I have to roast the ribbon design of this outfit—they literally fell off every couple of steps. I spent the entire time looking down for ribbons or constantly tidying up. Walking the convention floor, I could barely maintain a relaxed posture because I was always worried about something coming loose. Moreover, the tailoring where the shoulder and arm parts piece together is quite stiff, which left my arms in a rigid state where it was hard to raise them completely for the entire day. Even making a simple hand gesture or lifting the camera to take a picture took a lot of effort, leaving my range of motion extremely restricted. If you plan to wear this for dynamic action shots at an anime convention, I highly recommend doing some stretching and adjusting at home beforehand, otherwise, you might easily miss many good-looking action angles. This serves as a bit of a cosplay costume review for anyone interested.
However, setting aside these slight regrets regarding practicality and comfort, the final photographic results gave me huge psychological comfort. The color palette of this costume fits the character perfectly; the interwoven white and purple hemline looks exceptionally refreshing under natural sunlight. Coupled with the iconic white wing-shaped hair ornaments on my head and the black-and-pink split twin-tails wig, the character's recognizability was instantly maxed out. After putting on the purple contact lenses in the first image, I added a bit of eye makeup, and the character's cool, agile, yet slightly mysterious look was basically established. In the second photo, I intentionally pasted white cross-shaped bandages over my eyes. This small prop embellishment instantly gave the photo a bit of a battle-damaged or special storyline vibe, and I really love this way of presenting details that I can play around with myself.
Regarding the wig, the hair volume was very full this time, and the transition of the black-and-pink dual-color tips was very natural. But precisely because there was so much hair, the blunt bangs easily slid down or even blocked my vision while walking around. So before every shutter snap, I had to frantically adjust the angle of my bangs to make sure the hair strands wouldn't cast weird shadows on my face. Although the two sharp horns and wing hairpins on top of my head look beautiful, the clips at the connection points are rather thin. Fearing they might get knocked off on the convention floor, I had to use several bobby pins to lock them down completely. The anime convention venue was packed with heavy foot traffic, and the lighting conditions were quite random. Actually, this white-and-purple colored costume isn't very easy to capture with a premium texture outdoors, as it's prone to washing out or overexposing. Fortunately, the afternoon sunlight that day was excellent, hitting the glass windows perfectly to form a soft reflected light, which not only brightened my skin tone but also gave the metallic textures and gemstone decorations on the costume a great reflective effect.
As a new character attempt, even though the dressing process was a bit exhausting and felt like a constant battle with the outfit, seeing the final product made me feel the effort was worthwhile. For people who love cosplay, working around the flaws of each costume and discovering how a character translates into reality is a fun experience in itself. If I had noticed the issues with the ribbons and cuffs earlier and reinforced them with needle and thread or safety pins beforehand, I wouldn't have been so flustered on the convention floor. If I have another chance to wear this to an anime convention cosplay event, I will prepare more thoroughly. Overall, the design details of this costume are rich, and the atmosphere is well captured, making it perfect for outdoor shoots or taking static close-ups in the venue—I just hope there's room for improvement in terms of mobility and comfort. Additionally, I need to mention my facial state; this time, I specifically paired it with light purple colored contact lenses and clear base makeup that match the character's vibe, aiming for a cool girl vibe that goes beautifully with the white-and-purple palette of the clothes. The lace decoration at the neckline had a great texture under the sun. Although wearing it for a long time strangled my neck, I endured it for the sake of good photos. The glove design is also very retro, adding great layers when paired with bracelets. Many friends looking at the convention photos said the state in the first image is very soft, while the second one with closed eyes and bandages carries a rich narrative feel. In fact, to find the best lighting angle, I adjusted repeatedly in front of this glass window for a long time until my face almost froze from smiling. Fortunately, the effort wasn't wasted in the end. Photos with such a high yield rate actually rely entirely on those few minutes of lighting magic, so when everyone is exploring outdoors, be sure to pay extra attention to those natural light and shadow corners around you.
