When shooting this Arknights Entelechia cosplay, numerous detailed adjustments were made to the makeup and styling. To elevate visual texture, the costume was specially tailored with heavyweight black velvet, and the white pleated collar was hand-pressed, creating crisp folds that produced distinct layers under backlighting. The signature red belt and silver buttons served as vibrant accents against the dark tones, giving the entire look a sharper, more formidable edge. During the shoot, we took advantage of natural light filtering through the venue's windows and used smoke cakes to generate volumetric light, softening the background into a hazy dreamscape that instantly elevated the atmosphere with a compelling cinematic narrative even without filters.
For posing, my primary focus was capturing the character's elegance and enigmatic aura. This pose was designed to maximize the leg-flattering features of the outfit—leaning partially against the red cloth table with one leg gently bent, pairing a leg garter with Black stockings to elongate leg lines while maintaining a cool, aloof demeanor. The photographer's guidance was pivotal; he instructed me to tuck my chin slightly and cast my gaze downward, which worked with the backlighting to avoid harsh facial hot spots while defining facial contours. Because the costume is form-fitting, breath control was essential during shooting, balancing relaxation with upright posture to keep shoulder and neck lines from looking stiff. We also spent time perfecting how to hold the prop gun—gripping too tightly looked unnatural, while too loosely risked dropping it, so leaning slightly forward stabilized the wrist.
In post-processing, we heightened contrast between light and dark, subtly lifted shadow details, and preserved a touch of film grain to align with the somber, rich world of Arknights. Overall, this shoot experimented with diverse lighting schemes in composition and light-shadow interplay—especially the perspective effect of side backlighting slicing through the smoke, which made rim lights much more striking, producing preview shots I personally adored. A great photo set stems from meticulous pre-shoot preparations and tight on-set teamwork, including the red contact lenses and elf ears prepared for the role to bring out the character's distinctive charm in front of the lens.
Furthermore, maintaining high-intensity poses continuously tested my physical endurance—especially in a form-fitting Gothic style outfit where keeping the fabric smooth and waistline sleek meant staying poised even between takes. Every time we switched angles, we smoothed out garment folds to enrich the layered red-and-black contrast. To maximize leg proportions, I frequently tiptoed or shifted my center of gravity, leaving my calves sore after wrapping up. For this shoot, I studied the mysterious and dangerous aura of the character design, practicing subtle, cool-eyed sidelong glances. Since the ruffles on the costume tended to look messy in smoky environments, I spent considerable time using clips and styling spray to keep them spread neatly. The red tablecloth on set also helped immensely, reflecting subtle red warmth onto my facial contours. All this effort was well worth it—the backlit silhouettes and rim lights in the final photos look stunning. This hands-on Anime-style photography session provided valuable experience and fresh insights into post-processing style control.
