This time I shot this Genshin Impact Lumine maid outfit at the ijoy convention. It was actually a last-minute decision, but the result is much better than I expected. Because the convention photo environment is relatively messy, and the lighting is often top lighting or various strange color temperatures, I didn't hold high expectations for the final photos at the beginning, thinking it would be enough to leave a good memory. I prepared for this outfit for a long time. The blue-and-white color-blocked dress has really many details, like the golden embroidery on the apron, the four-pointed stars on the skirt hem, and the big light blue bow on the chest, making the overall look both as cute as a maid and as lively as a traveler.
In terms of makeup, I intentionally deepened the red smudging around the eyes and matched it with light-colored contact lenses, hoping to get closer to the character's bright and gentle feeling itself. The wig was also trimmed in advance, leaving sideburns in front, and adding that white ruffled hairband on top of the head. By slightly adjusting the overall proportion, the head contour became very full. The details on the gloves and sock rings were not missed either. White over-the-knee stockings paired with thick-heeled white patent leather high heels made the leg lines look better in front of the lens.
During the shooting, I communicated with the photographer Teacher Qiufeng FynnePhoto to capture as many natural states as possible rather than stiff, forced poses. The first sitting pose is one I really love: legs crossed, one hand touching the side of the cheek, and the other hand extending outward. The height of the chair just allows the entire skirt hem and leg lines to be displayed. The dark industrial-style background of the convention site, combined with the blurring of distant lights, instead made the brightness of our outfit stand out high.
The prop of holding a tray in the second photo was actually drinks and snacks I temporarily bought from a convenience store. Originally I just wanted to eat them myself, but when I picked it up, I found it unexpectedly fitting. In this scene, the maid holds the tray, coupled with a slight innocent look, and the atmosphere of daily life comes right out. Many friends ask me why the convention photos always look so natural. Actually, I really need to thank the photographer for knowing how to capture dynamics. As the person in front of the camera, I just need to adjust my state and show the character's due temperament, and leave the rest to the shutter speed. This is why I always feel that the emotion captured at the moment of pressing the shutter is often more touching than editing on the computer for half a day.
Although this outfit is not particularly heavy, walking around in a place like an anime convention and maintaining posture still consumes a lot of physical energy. However, being able to leave behind these good moments makes it all worthwhile. The light on that day was very bright, the texture of the clothing material was well preserved, and the combination of white and blue looked particularly clean in the lens.
The experience of this convention photo shoot also made me understand more clearly that good works are the result of joint efforts from both sides. Cosplayers put their heart into makeup, styling, and clothing, photographers control light, shadow, and composition, coupled with that real and natural interactive atmosphere on site, which allows the photos to have vitality. Without too much complex post-processing modification, the texture of the direct-out raw photos has already made me very satisfied. If there is a chance in the future, I would like to try more of this kind of outfits that have a bit of daily feel yet fit the settings, leaving different records in more scenes.
