For this duo feature photo shoot of Wuthering Waves' Hsin and Qingxiao, we put a lot of effort into the pre-preparation stage. Qingxiao's blue-and-white color scheme and semi-transparent tulle are the visual focus of this outfit. To express that light, flowing feel in the actual location, we specially selected blue gauze as the background, paired with wooden window lattices to enhance the overall ancient fantasy vibe. During the shoot, the curliness of the blue hair was adjusted repeatedly to ensure it wouldn't look rigid from any angle, and the eye makeup particularly emphasized the translucent feel of the blue contact lenses.
Hsin's styling emphasizes a sense of contrast more. The huge white fluffy ears have a great texture, but a lot of hairnets and hairpins were used to secure them. The red forehead markings and red eye makeup form a sharp contrast with the white hair, and also echo the red accessories on her body and the rubies on her clothes. During the shoot, we focused on the tension of the duo's interaction; for example, the leg-raising pose was not only to showcase the lines of the legs and white stockings, but also to give the overall composition a greater sense of extension, making it look less dull.
The cooperation with Muyue (Hsin) was quite tacit. The two of us discussed the action design for quite a long time; for example, in the top-down perspective of the second picture, I guided her to lean forward with her hand reaching towards the lens, creating an interactive feeling of breaking the dimension wall. To ensure the flatness of the costumes in front of the lens, we constantly paid attention to arranging the skirt hem and the cutout parts at the waist—after all, clothes of this material with even a slight wrinkle or wardrobe malfunction edge would diminish the quality of the frame. In terms of lighting, we tried to use soft front light, preserving skin texture while preventing the white stockings and tulle from being overexposed under strong light.
Special thanks to the post-processor "Nagano-hara Firework Shop Owner" this time. The lighting and tones of the raw photos were actually quite good already, but the post-processing further optimized the light-and-shadow atmosphere and color consistency, such as adjusting the blue gauze color to be more translucent, making the overall two-dimensional atmosphere richer. The most tiring yet happiest part of shooting duo cosplay is that two people can spark different ideas together and convey their understanding of the characters through actions and gazes in front of the lens. Although we struggled in high heels and heavy clothes for a whole day, seeing everyone's efforts perfectly presented in the final photos gave a very tangible sense of fulfillment. Every cosplay process is a process of reinterpreting the characters, which is also what I find most interesting.
