[Ellen Joe cosplay] Hardcore part-time daily life of Zenless Zone Zero's shark maid

This Ellen Joe cosplay costume from Zenless Zone Zero underwent numerous adjustments from custom tailoring to the final shoot, and finally had the opportunity to be fully presented at the convention venue. As a character leaning toward a hardcore combat style, this outfit incorporates plenty of tactical leather accessories on the basis of a traditional maid dress, including a rugged leather choker around the neck, shoulder straps on the chest, a wide leather belt with metal chains around the waist, and accents of red detail straps. The addition of these elements neutralizes the soft cuteness the maid skirt might originally have, adding a crisp, sharp coolness belonging to combat personnel.

Cosplaying a character with heavy weaponry requires the most consideration in prop pairing. The black, white, and red mechanical giant scythe in hand actually carries very considerable weight, featuring an armored patchwork design, with hand-painted black star emblems on the white blade section. To hold it up for photos, I specifically trained my arm strength before the shoot; otherwise, under low-angle shots, even a slight lapse in effort would make the posture look completely slouched. This time, the photographer used a hard lighting setup combining a wide-angle lens with direct on-camera flashes—the light was very direct and cold, casting sharp shadows on the concrete floor, which perfectly matched Ellen Joe's innate combat aura.

In terms of makeup and wig selection, I also specifically aligned with the setting: short hair with a black-and-blue gradient, with lively pink highlights added to the ends and ear sides, paired with red colored contacts to make the gaze look sharper and calmer. Combined with black stockings (Black stockings cosplay) and thick platform high heels with transparent heels, the visual center of gravity of the entire look was concentrated on the legs and feet, which not only elongated body proportions but also added lots of visual appeal. Black stockings naturally bring a sense of mystery and elegance, and paired with combat stances and low-profile crouching movements, even static photos are filled with dynamic, poised tension.

Many friends wonder whether cosplaying such a hardcore character at a convention is exhausting—it really is, because you have to keep the weapon from dragging on the ground while finding suitable open spaces among crowds to strike exaggerated low-ground poses. Like the pose in photo 4 with one knee on the ground and the other leg stretched forward, it took several adjustments to the center of gravity to settle on. The ruffles of the Maid outfit cosplay restrict the range of motion, especially when crouching or half-kneeling, requiring care to ensure the skirt hem doesn't get pressed into awkward positions. In addition, pairing with black stockings really tests leg muscle lines: you have to present a smooth, seamless texture while fully showcasing the advantage of leg lines in low-angle compositions for Convention photos.

There are still many details in prop fabrication that can be optimized, such as anti-slip treatment on the grip and structural strength at the joints. However, I am still quite satisfied with the overall results shot this time: the crisp flash lighting, powerful wide-angle composition, and the contrast between the black stockings maid and heavy armament effectively express this combat maid with an independent temperament. As a photoshoot from an offline exhibition, I not only experienced the joy of portraying the character, but also exchanged insights on speedlights and color grading with the on-site photographers. Enjoying this process of taking every makeup application and prop refinement seriously is truly the greatest satisfaction cosplay brings me.
