This set of cosplay photos of the Diamond character from Land of the Lustrous taken at the Firefly ACG Expo is finally sorted out. Although the schedule on-site was tight, being able to collaborate with photographer friends at the convention to capture the desired atmosphere and then fine-tune it myself bit by bit in post-processing made the whole process highly fulfilling.
Since the character's wig and highlight parts are quite difficult to handle—with cyan, purple, and pink streaks layered over a silver-white base—making it look natural and not abrupt under strong light relied heavily on meticulous styling beforehand. In terms of apparel, the black bodysuit with a white collar paired with a black tie, a white belt dividing the upper and lower proportions, along with white long gloves and over-the-knee socks, presents a crisp yet slightly playful visual effect overall. Holding the sword with a yellow sheath is an important embellishment to the look; the bright yellow provides a strong visual impact against an all-black background, and it also requires a good grasp of the prop's holding angle.
For this shoot, we intentionally chose a high-contrast, strong-defiance light source instead of soft light. Whether sitting on a high stool with my head slightly tilted up, half-kneeling while supporting myself with a hand on the ground, or looking back with the sword resting on my shoulder, all were attempts to get as close as possible to the character's detached yet resilient traits. The strong light hitting the white gloves and wig outlined clear edge silhouettes, while making the colorful highlights on the hair strands look exceptionally translucent. What I wanted to express is that exact line: "If it's not strong, it's not Diamond."
Looking back at these frames, my favorite is the pose with both hands supporting on the ground and one leg stretching forward. This movement heavily tests core strength and requires sufficient balance, beautifully corresponding to the character's internal, unbreakable will. Wearing thick-soled shoes and over-the-knee socks while maintaining this lowered center-of-gravity posture was actually exhausting, but to restore the character's action tension, these efforts were entirely necessary. The photographer captured many moments on-site at the Firefly ACG Expo; the convention environment and the blurred figures in the background can be seen, which perfectly preserves an authentic atmosphere of convention photos and lifestyle.
Regarding post-processing, this time it was completed jointly by the photographer and me. The focus was on strengthening the dark areas, letting the cluttered convention background sink into dark tones as much as possible to make the body silhouette clearer, while adjusting the highlight details of the white gloves and white socks to avoid overexposure, ensuring the overall color temperature leans cold to maintain the character's unique cool texture. I believe the final effect presented by this set of photos is a very good direction of restoration for this character. A piece of fine cosplay creation is inseparable from meticulous preparation in the early stages, focused investment on-site, and patient polishing in post-processing through our journey of cosplay photography and Diamond cosplay creation. It can be counted as delivering a satisfying answer sheet to what I love.
