The shoot at the Firefly ACG Expo wrapped up smoothly. Prepping this Silver hair and cat ears maid look took about two weeks. For the wig, I selected a long straight silver-grey style, trimmed blunt bangs across the brow, and kept longer face-framing strands along the cheeks, securing them on both sides with silver metal hair ornaments to form a twin-tail silhouette. To suit the neko character concept, I topped the head with a pair of large, fluffy plush ears accented by small metal ring piercings for extra detail.
The wardrobe follows a timeless monochrome palette: a black short-sleeved base layer and black pleated skirt underneath, layered with a crisp white apron over top. The apron features delicate white lace ruffles along the hem and four black heart-shaped buttons neatly aligned down the bodice. The neckline is a clean white Peter Pan collar complemented by a pleated white neckerchief across the chest. On the lower half, I wore over-the-knee White stockings; the stark black-and-white contrast popped vividly against the outdoor greenery.
For makeup, to balance the silver hair and vibrant bright-blue contact lenses, I blended soft pink tones across the eyelids and applied extra blush to give the complexion a lively glow. The icy blue lenses set against the silver locks created a clear, luminous look. Because wearing a heavy wig and animal ears easily causes sweating, I layered plenty of setting spray and translucent powder to ensure the base remained locked in while walking outdoors.
The convention crowd was enormous on shoot day, so we located a quieter nook bordered by shrubs and red-and-white hazard tape. For props, I brought a slender dark wand, incorporating tapping and pointing gestures to make the compositions dynamic. The photographer guided poses expertly—gestures like one hand on the hip while pointing forward, or gently touching the collar, worked wonderfully with the cute charm of the cat ears.
Outdoor portraiture always hinges on lighting conditions. The natural light that day was soft and diffused, lending beautiful texture to the final shots. Full-body framing cleanly showcased the harmony of the apron, pleated skirt, and White stockings, while medium close-ups highlighted the fine details of the ears and makeup. When roaming conventions with animal ears and voluminous wigs, anchoring them securely with hairnets and extra bobby pins is essential to prevent slippage.
