[Evelyn cosplay] The strongest bodyguard of Zenless Zone Zero, casual moments after clocking off

This Evelyn outfit made its appearance during this year's Firefly ACG Expo. It has actually been a while since the shoot, but today while flipping through my photo album, I saw these two casual "bodyguard off-duty" snapshots. Having some free time on hand, I decided to chat about the feelings behind this look.

Since I chose Evelyn from Zenless Zone Zero, I had to be relentless about accuracy. What tested patience the most was actually the hairstyle. Seeing the short blonde hair in the photos, everyone might think it looks quite crisp, but in reality, it not only has layered bangs, but also requires a delicate side braid to hold down the entire styling. To get this side braid right, I trimmed and styled the wig for a long time; the direction and tightness of the braid had to be adjusted just right, otherwise the contour of the head would look bulky.

The eye makeup and facial features were also the main highlights of this look. Because Evelyn herself has very unique light-colored eyes, I wore these light blue-gray colored contacts. Looking closely at the photos, the diameter and color of the contact lenses enlarged my pupils considerably before the camera, immediately bringing out that cool and sharp gaze. Combined with finely trimmed slender eyebrows and clean matte base makeup, I was very satisfied with how well the facial makeup aligned with the character. However, for this clear makeup effect, the foundation and concealer couldn't be applied too heavily, yet convention lighting notoriously washes out makeup, which required frequent touch-ups with loose powder and setting spray.

In terms of clothing, a white shirt served as the inner layer beneath a black jacket with wide white border patchwork at the collar, plus that golden small triangle at the tie and the iconic four-leaf clover emblem. These two small accessories are the soul of the entire outfit, especially that flat clover-shaped clasp, which exceptionally accentuates the character's identity. The choice of jacket fabric also had good texture—not the kind of ordinary fabric that wrinkles easily—so whether walking among convention booths or standing for photos with attendees, it maintained a crisp silhouette.

The foot traffic at this Firefly ACG Expo was indeed huge. Walking around the hall in this getup for half a day was quite physically demanding. Although this suit-cut jacket wasn't overly cumbersome, weaving through crowds with a wig, a moderately breathable wig cap, and light-filtering colored contacts left my feet sore and eyes dry by the end of the day. Nevertheless, when meeting players who recognized the character or being invited by photographers for shots, that immersive feeling brought by the character made all the hard work feel completely worthwhile.

When taking these two photos, it happened to be the afternoon of the second day of the expo. Exhibitors in the hall were already starting to pack up their booths, and announcements reminding attendees of closing time were echoing around. My friend and I sat down in a nearby cafe to rest our feet, and taking advantage of this slightly relaxed break, I raised my phone and pressed the shutter. This is the so-called "bodyguard off-duty" moment you see. Because the character has such a crisp, professional image, that cool worker / bodyguard off-duty state strangely overlapped with my post-convention mindset of just wanting to quickly take off makeup, kick off high heels (though I wore flat boots for this look), and head back to the hotel early to sleep.

As an enthusiast who has done quite a few cosplays in 2D daily life, I deeply know that behind every accurate presentation before the camera lies the dedication of staying up late before events to prepare props, trim wigs, and try on outfits. The charm of "overdue selfies" lies in how they act like time capsules, sealing away the fatigue, excitement, and fulfillment of that day in their purest form. Looking back at these two photos now, although the composition and lighting are just casual everyday selfies without professional photography lights, the authentic "wrap-up happiness" unique to convention-goers captured here is truly precious.
