To bring out the best in this Chalcedony ice core set, I focused the photoshoot on capturing the character's serene, aloof nature. Yin Ziping in NARAKA: BLADEPOINT is truly distinctive; her line, 'I have no desire to vie with you for supremacy,' perfectly encapsulates her detached yet independent aura. For this concept, instead of aggressive combat stances, I opted for a subtly twisted, dynamic standing pose.
Wardrobe-wise, the Chalcedony ice core design is richly layered. The modified Chinese qipao is pristinely translucent, with cutouts at the chest paired with frog closures and pearl accents that look exceptionally refined. I particularly adore the lace trim along the edges, complemented by cloud-like jacquard patterns at the bottom hem. For accessories, the white over-the-knee stockings and fingerless gloves infuse anime-inspired flair into the overall silhouette. These white stockings not only contour the leg lines beautifully but also harmonize with the cool-toned backdrop to unify the character's aura. The hair ornament is quite distinctive—white pom-poms paired with small black hairpins—which had to be pinned at an exact angle to keep the look balanced and avoid looking top-heavy, posing quite a test for overall styling coordination.
The location was an industrial-style indoor studio. The cavernous background and cold metallic textures actually accentuated the pure, gentle qualities of the subject. Because the space was expansive, overhead spotlights served as the primary light source. Standing directly beneath the beam, the photographer utilized a low-angle perspective. Holding this angle during Cosplay photography was actually quite tiring, as it required keeping my head tilted back to manage facial expressions while keeping my posture fluidly extended. The tension of the movement showed primarily along the profile of the skirt; using a gentle fan breeze, the hair and hem floated naturally with kinetic energy. However, aligning the hidden fan was tricky—a slight misdirection would blow hair across my face or cause disarray, requiring multiple trials.
For makeup, to complement the translucent clarity of Chalcedony ice core, the foundation was kept ultra-light, focusing primarily on red eyeshadow at the outer corners of the eyes and a glossy finish on the lips to preserve skin luminosity under strong key lights without washing out the face. In post-processing, cold-white skin tones were the primary focus. To heighten the dynamic energy, the photographer incorporated floating green leaves into the frame. The placement of these leaves was fine-tuned repeatedly so they wouldn't obscure my face while interweaving subtly with floating strands of hair. This gave the entire image breathing room, transforming it from a static portrait into a captured instant of motion.
The most rewarding aspect was capturing the expression in the eyes. To convey that nonchalant yet spirited mood, the photographer continually guided my gaze—sometimes looking slightly off-camera, sometimes holding a close-up focus. The combination of stockings and skirt offered immense versatility for posing. While the outfit felt remarkably light, posing under high-key lighting demanded tight core control so the white skirt could drape into organic, graceful arcs.
Inside this industrial crossover set, experimenting with elements like white hosiery, lace, and a modified qipao allowed me to express a unique aesthetic bridging traditional and modern styles. Simply documenting this clash of style and lighting made for a thoroughly enriching shoot. It not only deepened my understanding of the character but also gave me invaluable camera experience when working with high-contrast environments.
