[Padparadscha cosplay] A Splash of Crimson in the Land of the Lustrous - Image 1

A lot of preparation went into this Padparadscha cosplay from Land of the Lustrous, right from deciding the theme to the official shoot. Padparadscha is known for 'sleeping for hundreds of years, just for a single moment,' a unique concept that deeply fascinates me. In this set of photos, we used a large amount of glossy red metallic tinsel as the main props and scene layout. These red materials create mirror reflections under the studio's strong lights, which, paired with a large area of pure white background, maximizes the color impact.

For the makeup, the makeup artist, Teacher Yueyue, handled the facial structure very delicately. Instead of using overly heavy colors, she highlighted a cool, fragile, and exquisite look. In terms of clothing, besides the classic dark academy-style uniform and white collar, I specially added the element of white gloves, hoping to get closer to the pure and flawless trait of the Lustrous.

During the shoot, the photographer, Teacher Qiaokeli, was incredibly precise with the control of light and shadow in this cosplay photography session. We covered the reflective mirror surface with red metallic wires, allowing the reflection and the entity to form a visual overlap. To embody Padparadscha's state of 'sleeping,' I chose to hold up the tinsel with both hands to cover my face, letting the red wig fall naturally and intentionally hiding most of my facial features. I hope everyone can feel the character's inherent loneliness and resoluteness through this sense of form, rather than just identifying a face.

In fact, this shoot was quite a test of stamina. Sitting among the piles of sharp, reflective metallic tinsel meant I had to constantly adjust my posture to avoid getting scratched, while also ensuring that the skirt hem and tinsel maintained a loose, natural pile-up effect. Teacher Cha was a huge help on set, constantly helping to arrange stray hairs and the flow of the props to ensure every detail fit into our pre-designed composition. I particularly love the flowing visual effect stretched out by the red color in the final reflection; it carries immense narrative tension.

Padparadscha sapphire is a very special existence in the original work. This combination of crimson magnificence and the sleeping setting has been tangibly brought to life through this cosplay. I hope this set of photos can bring everyone a different visual experience, serving as my dedicated interpretation of my understanding of this character.
