This Ishtar Cosplay outfit took a lot of thought during the preliminary preparations. The satin texture of the red shirt catches the light brightly, so to anchor the overall tone, I paired it with a black multi-tiered ruffled bowtie and a high-waisted pleated miniskirt. The gold metallic ornamentation on the waist is the finishing touch; the metallic sheen and the matte fabric create a wonderful sense of layering. The row of gold buttons on the cuffs cannot be neglected either—details often dictate the overall vibe. Since the character concept features long Silver hair, the wig had to be crafted from heat-resistant fibers, styled with a curling iron to introduce gentle wave curves. The handling of the bangs is crucial: not too heavy, resting right along the brow bone so as not to obscure the gaze. Red contact lenses are the core of the entire makeup look, paired with slightly elongated eyeliner to instantly focus attention before the camera.
The shooting location was chosen as an industrial-style indoor space. The on-site lighting was quite complex, featuring scattered spherical lamps on the ceiling. To make the subject pop, we brought in large sheets of glossy aluminum foil as props and foreground. The crinkles of the foil produced irregular specular reflections, forming a striking visual contrast with the character's red and black combination outfit. The first two photos adopted a seated pose, with one leg bent and stepping on the foil, while hand gestures naturally directed the line of sight toward the face. This posture beautifully displayed the skirt's tiers and leg lines, especially the burgundy Stockings, which gained richer texture against the silvery reflective background. The third shot was a standing pose designed to showcase the overall garment silhouette, with crossed arms enhancing the commanding aura.
A key consideration during shooting was coordination of movement. The drape of the skirt, the glossy texture of the shoes, and the flow of the hair strands all demanded attention. To capture a satisfying result, adjusting leg postures and the distance of the reflector board alone took numerous attempts. The chunky heel design of the Mary Jane shoes offered support while lengthening the leg proportions, perfectly suited for this retro-tinged design. True to Ishtar's character setup, her demeanor required a self-assured confidence that transcends ordinary mortals, so the shoot needed to convey not just the external beauty of the costume, but also the character's aura through body language. Regarding fabric selection, I carefully compared multiple shops, and I manually re-ironed all the pleats of the pleated skirt to ensure a radial, natural curve when sitting or raising a leg. Since burgundy Stockings easily suffer from uneven reflection under lighting, I specifically chose a matte-textured pair, matching them with patent-gloss Mary Janes to build detail layering through material clashes.
On the day of the shoot, the venue ceiling featured numerous structural lights, and we decided to use these point sources as bokeh in the background. In terms of lighting, the primary light source came from 45 degrees front-left, carving out facial dimension and the bridge-of-the-nose highlight, while a silver reflector board was added on the side to cast a soft rim light on the hair strands, giving the Silver hair a more airy feel. That pile of crumpled foil in the background was originally intended as floor reflection material to fill in dark areas, but stacking it into a seat unexpectedly produced magnificent irregular highlights, forming a sharp color contrast with the red and black combination garments. I actually really love the pose in the first photo, with one hand caressing the cheek and one leg raised; this action visually elongates the leg lines while highlighting the edges of the high heels and Stockings. To capture the perfect composition, I held this pose for roughly ten minutes while the photographer repeatedly adjusted focal lengths and lighting. Later, switching to a standing pose with arms crossed over the chest not only fully revealed the golden waist ornaments but also gave the frame a stable composition and a stronger aura. To make the red and black combination visual impact pop, the base makeup was kept exceptionally clean and translucent, and besides the red eyes, deeper red tones were layered at the outer corners of the eyes to harmonize the entire look. Having always adored this character concept, being able to bring the vision from my mind to reality was deeply fulfilling. From fabric selection to final touch-ups, every phase aimed for perfection. Seeing the final edits on the screen made all the efforts worthwhile, and this photo set serves as a chronicle of my passion.
