[Yixuan cosplay] Valiant Thaumaturge in Zenless Zone Zero: High Difficulty Balancing on One Leg in Platform Heels

Sharing the official photos from this Yixuan shoot in an unfinished warehouse. The theme quote, "Copying my pose? Stabilize that wobbly leg of yours first," is actually very realistic, because pulling off a one-legged balancing pose on concrete ground in this glossy black leather jacket and chunky platform heels truly demands serious core strength.

Speaking of costume texture, this black leather top reflects a gorgeous luster under sunlight, especially in backlighting or sidelighting where the high-contrast play between highlights and shadows on the leather surface is striking. The sapphire embellishment at the collar, the black-and-silver sleeved patchwork, along with the sweeping cloud patterns on the cuffs create rich visual layering in the light. To capture the dynamic flow of these wide sleeves in motion, we repeatedly adjusted the force and angle of arm lifts during the shoot, ensuring natural folds in the fabric while preventing it from obstructing hand gestures.

For the lower half, pairing shorts with a black tights outfit and high heels elongates leg lines while making the character appear even sharper. In particular, the glossy black chunky platform heels look exceptionally sleek against the rough concrete floor of the warehouse. During the shoot, the photographer cleverly utilized sunlight streaming through the high windows, forming sharp light-shadow demarcations across the shoes and tights. For the two leg-lift shots, we experimented with different leg heights and arm swing directions; the cover photo we ultimately selected represents our most polished coordination between leg and arm posture.

Beyond standing poses, crouching stances and posing with the talisman paper offer their own distinct flair. Holding the semi-transparent yellow talisman overhead to block the sun feels like playing with light and shadow. The light filtering through the paper onto the silver-white hair illuminates that signature ahoge on the crown with sheer translucency. The biggest challenge across these sets was facial expression control: because the character's temperament is inherently aloof and detached, capturing that "nonchalant yet in total control" expression amidst strong sunlight and an industrial ruin backdrop required rapidly locking eye focus. Every time the photographer called "look here," I had to instantly lock my gaze onto the lens.

The shooting location was thoughtfully selected: utilizing this semi-abandoned industrial workshop provided rough concrete pillars, red pipes, and sweeping natural lighting. The dappled sunlight patches across the ground below and the light filtering through the wooden doorframe behind freed the frame from the monotony of standard studio shoots. The low-angle upward perspective further elongated leg proportions, making the character's presence stand out even more.

Regarding wig styling, I used a silver-white long wig, carefully conditioned before the shoot to prevent strands from appearing greasy or frizzy. Under direct sunlight, the fiber reflection was very natural. For overall makeup, warm-toned eyeshadow was chosen to neutralize the cool tones of the hair and costume, adding spirited focus to the eyes.

Doing cosplay is a continuous process of effort and self-breakthrough; every time I see the contrast between the on-site shooting grind and the final results, every bit of effort feels worthwhile. This Yixuan look has plenty of nuanced details to appreciate, both in costume design and venue harmony.

Talking about physical exertion during the shoot, I must mention that one-legged stance. Anyone who does cosplay knows that waiting for the right beam of light or hand angle sometimes means holding a difficult pose for dozens of seconds or even half a minute. Standing on one foot on uneven concrete in platform shoes, keeping balanced without looking stiff relied entirely on core muscle engagement. After those standing takes, my calves definitely ached for a while, prompting me to joke with the photographer: "Even if my leg isn't steady, I still have to fake it!"

Continuing with costume details: the silver-gray wide fabric at the cuffs isn't stiff, but relatively soft. When walking or gesturing, it flows gracefully, creating a wonderful tactile contrast against the structured black leather of the top. In the crouching poses of photos 2 and 4, raising my hand overhead to hold the talisman prop was both to align with the light path across my face and to showcase the tension of the outfit during extended body movements. The photographer kept reminding me of wrist angles during these shots so the talisman didn't block my face unnaturally.

The silver-white wig is truly one of the souls of this look. The ahoge on top took substantial effort during styling, requiring dedicated hair wax or styling spray to fix it into a natural curve. If the hair got messy during shooting—especially if the ahoge collapsed—the character's charm would suffer drastically. Thus, we kept a styling comb on hand at all times, making touch-ups every few shots.

For makeup, to match the character's cool and sharp vibe, I emphasized elongated eyeliner and razor-sharp eyebrows. In terms of palette, earth tones and gold eyeshadow were used, which prevented any pallor from the silver hair while sharpening the gaze. The lip color was a natural nude tone, ensuring it wouldn't steal visual focus from the outfit while preserving emotional restraint.

Reviewing the entire photo set, I truly admire the photographer's mastery over lighting in this Industrial style photography. Shooting with natural light means rapid shifts, but the resulting light-and-shadow dynamics cannot be replicated by studio strobes. The high-angle afternoon sun cast down from above, creating intense contrast across the body where highlight areas on the leather, shoes, and glossy metals formed a richly layered image with the shadow areas on concrete and fabric folds. In particular, the long shadow stretching across the ground in Photo 1 gave the composition great fullness.

This shoot was a joyful venture; the synergy between location, lighting, costume, and character styling was remarkably high. Seeing the final Cosplay photoshoot results made all the hard work completely worthwhile.
