This shoot chose the two characters Yunli and Feixiao from Honkai: Star Rail. Looking back at the entire shooting process, from outfit preparation and prop making to on-site lighting coordination, the final restoration level of the finished photos is quite satisfying.
First, for Yunli's outfit, the overall color palette centers on white and teal-blue, complemented by gold thread edge detailing. The gem metal accessories on her chest and her crown bring a strong sense of weight, while the metal ring and yellow tassel details at her waist form a great visual response to the candied haws prop held in her hand. Holding the candied haws naturally without shaking was actually a test of hand strength control during shooting. Her makeup leans toward a fresh girlhood style, showcasing her confident side through hairstyle and eyes.
The visual focal point of Feixiao's outfit falls on her white hair and beast ears. The wig was styled into silver-white hair with rich volume and layering, featuring a slight teal-blue gradient at the tips that is visually striking alongside the plush beast ears atop her head. Her outfit is a martial arts-inspired white robe with intricate gold embroidery, featuring blue-and-white mask accessories and red tassel knots on the left shoulder and waist. The black liquor jug held in her hand bears a "Liquor" label; the angle and height when holding this prop were adjusted multiple times to highlight the character's suave and heroic personality traits.
We selected a photo studio filled with traditional style elements for the set. The background consists of dark wooden grid folding screens lined with woven bamboo blinds behind them, and white cloth drapes printed with calligraphy calligraphy hanging from the top. While this set itself has rich depth, light penetration needs to be considered during shooting. On-site lighting took the most time to adjust; warm yellow light served as the main light source to highlight fabric texture and facial contours, while a cool blue-violet light beam was introduced on the right side of the frame to hit Feixiao's hair strands and beast ears. The interweaving of warm and cool lights instantly elevated the photo's atmosphere, matching the unique Xianzhou aura that blends classic tradition with sci-fi.
Pairing movements during a two-person Cosplay photography shoot was a key challenge. Yunli needed to raise the candied haws with a confident smile, while Feixiao had to hold up the heavy prop jug with one hand while keeping her upper body upright. Through repeated position adjustments, we gradually found the interactive personality dynamics between the two characters. Yunli's playfulness and Feixiao's composure formed a balanced picture through body language and gazes.
For this shoot, we paid great attention to detailed presentation, from the reflection of tiny metal pendants to the hanging positions of cloth drapes. Although maintaining character-accurate postures was tiring, seeing the frozen frames on the camera screen made all the preparation completely worthwhile and meaningful.
