This shoot experimented with a very hardcore style clashing dark and red-black tones, with the focus on restoring the concentration and sharpness in that hunter's eyes. In the early phase of the shoot, a lot of thought went into selecting the clothing materials; the main black fabric chose a material with a strong matte texture, while the mesh patchwork on the chest and abdomen and the red geometric fragments used relatively lightweight sheer fabric, paired with local shiny black patent leather decorations to present alternating warm and cold visual layers under different light refractions. The wig was another difficulty in this makeup and styling; the red and white long hair needed to create a fluffy and elegant sense of trailing motion, while the red highlights on the bangs section needed both a natural gradient and to maintain an overall manga feel, cooperating with that orange-gold tinted contact lenses to successfully reveal a trace of her characteristic cold temperament.
The lighting strategy for the entire set of photos primarily relied on the background ambient light to sculpt a sense of space. The red backdrop behind, combined with the vertically draped sequin bead curtains, formed highly dreamlike bokeh spots after lens blurring. Those alternating red and black feather effects surrounding my body were also completed by leveraging the on-site blower during shooting and stacking post-processing special effects. To make the sense of motion more realistic, I repeatedly adjusted hand movements and body tilt angles during the shoot, capturing these atmospheric cinematic shots.
Many people seem to particularly favor the second image, and I also consider it a moment filled with emotional tension. In that top-down, high-angle composition, the black tactical gloves form a stark contrast with the white straps. The extension of the leg curves combined with the black patent leather ankle boots, plus the stretching sensation brought by the wide-angle lens, perfectly presented the maximum aesthetic beauty of the lines enveloped by the black sheer shorts and stockings. With one hand resting against my jaw and my body's center of gravity slightly leaning back, paired with the airflow wrapping around my body and the fluttering hair strands, it built up an effortlessly confident posture. The other images holding the matching chibi plush doll were meant to present a contrasting, cute side of the character beyond her martial prowess.
When shooting characters with sci-fi and combat elements, the hardest thing to control is actually the strength in the gaze. Across multiple camera angle switches, I needed to constantly maintain the tightness of my facial muscles, preventing the makeup from fragmenting against the shadow of the jawline under the light. Although the high-saturation red background easily bleeds the facial colors into the environment's red, a balance was ultimately reached in the skin tone presentation through the front soft light supplement of the main light source. Throughout the entire shooting process, I repeatedly sought support points on the wooden frame to ensure the orientation of the skirt hem and props aligned with the physical logic needed for post-processing composition special effects. This process of converting a flat game illustration into a 3D real shoot is precisely where the joy of cosplay photography lies.
