Today, I'd like to share with everyone the creative mindset and shooting details of Coco Sawatari's Witchification styling from Magical Girl's Witch Trial.
The overall positioning of this styling is a combination of dark Gothic and subcultural cute style. In terms of makeup, to highlight the Witchification setting, I focused heavily on the eye makeup and facial special effects. The colored contact lenses chose a high-saturation amber color, and the eyeshadow built upon earth tones with intensified smudging on the lower eyelid, paired with a large area of orange-pink blush applied to the cheekbones and cheeks, creating a contrasting feel of paleness yet vitality. The black crack special effect at the corner of the mouth was carefully drawn with an eyeliner pen, coupled with the specially worn fang props, which can wonderfully present the character's playfulness and sense of danger when smiling. The manicures also matched the overall color tone with black-and-white alternating colors.
The wig part is a black-and-orange highlighted blunt-bangs short hair, trimmed with layers to make the top of the head look fluffier. Two eye-shaped hair clips are pinned to the side of the hair, and wearing cat ears with stripe elements and black headphones serves as the finishing touch of the entire styling. The black leather choker on the neck features a metal square buckle and cross straps, and the extended straps can increase the visual layering in front of the chest.
In terms of clothing, the top is an off-the-shoulder long sleeve spliced with black, gray, and white stripes, layered with a white vest inside. The print on the chest features a cross mark and dots, and the bright orange studded belt at the waist is the visual center of the entire outfit, echoing the hair color. The lower body black mini skirt features heart and cross prints on the hem, paired with black and white horizontal striped over-the-knee socks and thigh leather leg rings, visually lengthening the leg lines. On the feet is a pair of black platform boots with buckle designs, which not only increase the height proportion but also make the overall look fit the Jirai-kei or dark style atmosphere. In terms of props, the hanging giant black double-bladed axe and the bandaged mummy white rabbit doll held in hand form a huge contrast between hardcore and cuteness.
When shooting, face-close selfies mainly highlight facial makeup and accessory details, while full-body photos focus on demonstrating the integrity of the costume and the visual impact of the props. When posing, I will use gestures and gazes to coordinate with the props, increasing the interactivity of the frame. The coordination and shooting of the entire styling are trying to fuse subcultural elements with character traits; I hope everyone can feel this unique style.
