Stepping into the studio with pre-arranged red-and-black set dressing, the moment I changed into Phrolova's complete outfit and makeup, I was instantly pulled into that mysterious and grotesque world belonging to Wuthering Waves.
The visual design of this outfit carries a strong impact; the classic red, white, and black combination possesses remarkable texture under the photographer's low-key lighting. First, talking about hair and makeup: the light teal short hair seems simple, but we made several fine adjustments to the trimming and bangs curvature. To balance cold elegance and mystery, I consciously lowered my eyebrow angle, paired with dark eyeshadow so the overall facial expression fits the character's cold, detached, yet story-filled demeanor.
The layering of the costume is exceptionally rich. The white bandeau top on the upper body is far from monotonous; deep red flower ornaments at the neckline and chest resemble marks blooming from the abyss, directly establishing the keynote of the overall look. The red sleeves feature exaggerated puffiness, complemented by red-and-white arm straps, making the upper body appear delicate yet powerful. What tested patience most was actually the vertical striped stockings on the lower body; during studio shooting, sitting postures required constant adjustments to prevent stripes from warping into unnatural creases over bent knees. Paired with those exaggerated red platform high-heeled boots, standing on the reflective black floor immediately elevated my entire aura significantly.
Prop and set construction were undeniably the soul of this set. The massive carved black high-back chair behind me naturally exudes a regal sense of oppression, while the cross directly overhead and illuminated dark-red cold light brought the gloomy, oppressive Dark atmosphere to a peak. Heavy iron chains hanging on the left and white bone skulls placed on the foreground floor resemble relics of some mysterious ritual, infusing the scene with story tension. The dark red dried flower prop in my hand, though a still object, made me unconsciously imagine the metaphors behind it whenever I held it.
Body control during shooting was the greatest challenge this time. Sitting on the throne required maintaining a relaxed yet commanding posture; expressions couldn't be too sweet or too aggressive, letting arrogance and composure seep through. My suspended right hand and flower-holding left hand underwent many changes during post-selection to ultimately find an angle showcasing iconic character elements while achieving visual balance in composition for Cosplay photography. High-reflection flooring clearly mirrored shoe and leg lines, greatly enhancing image gorgeousness while demanding stricter posture precision from every angle.
Although wearing heavy boots, intricate clothing, and maintaining specific lighting stances for extended periods was physically draining, seeing the final images present such rich Gothic style cosplay aesthetics made everything worthwhile. This look is not only a visual tribute to the Wuthering Waves worldview, but also a new personal breakthrough in attempting dark-themed characters. Setting aside brilliant lighting, the character-specific emotion settled within the set is the core element I wished to present to viewers. I am immensely satisfied with the overall completeness from concept to execution.
