This Studio photography session adopted a classic dark gothic red-and-black color palette, with extensive thought poured into set construction and lighting arrangements. From draping red velvet fabrics to styling vintage gramophones, crystal candelabras, and goblets, every detail was orchestrated to cultivate a mysterious, nocturnal ambiance.
To complement this gown featuring an expansive voluminous skirt and sheer tulle sleeves, I intensified the eye contours in my makeup and deliberately selected accessories with metallic luster to enrich overall textural depth. Perching on an elevated platform in this ensemble was surprisingly demanding on physical endurance. Teetering on stilettos while holding an elegant silhouette amid drifting fog required an engaged core, all while keeping facial expressions languid and composed. The photographer utilized intense side-backlighting to outline luminous halos along the fabric edges; such high-contrast lighting heavily tested skin texture, making pre-makeup priming and setting powder exceptionally vital.
Beyond this red-and-black theme, the shoot also explored completely distinct aesthetics. For instance, in a cool-blue Chinese fantasy setting, I sat atop a wooden daybed with long streaming sashes draping from my hands, where faux cherry blossoms and cool-toned fog machines formed a tranquil, ethereal spatial dimension. In another pure white fantasy temple set, massive wing props paired with bright backlighting required looking downward into the lens to command an imposing presence. In truth, every Dark style studio shoot is a dual test of physical stamina and mental focus—especially wearing wigs and intricate headdresses, which often require one or two hours of preparation beforehand alongside constant on-set touch-ups to avoid visual flaws.
Lately, I have also been preparing my application as a Guangzhou CICF free-roaming participant. Honestly, attending conventions always feels like waging a battle: not only waking up early to queue, but also sustaining top form amid bustling crowds to snap photos and interact with fellow fans. Yet that offline convention atmosphere is completely irreplaceable online; seeing everyone's meticulously crafted outfits and exchanging photography insights with friends who share similar tastes is deeply rewarding. To bring my absolute best form to the expo, I have been keeping up with posture training recently, hoping to showcase these costumes to their fullest potential. The outfits I am bringing are quite heavy—especially styles requiring metal fittings and hefty props—so I have already begun mapping routes within the exhibition hall in advance, aiming to bypass peak foot traffic and find more open spaces for shooting.
As a cosplayer who loves exploring diverse aesthetics, I always feel every shutter click is a secondary artistic creation honoring the character and visual design. From hashing out storyboards with the photographer beforehand to culling photos and balancing color temperatures in post, I strive to stay actively involved in every step. Successfully producing this set owes immense gratitude to the dedicated team at Tuntun Photography Club—their studio lighting direction and set design were thoroughly professional. Moving forward, I will continue polishing new concepts, striving to have a wonderful time hanging out and connecting with everyone on site at CICF.
