This styling combining a Sailor suit JK uniform with animal ears and White stockings was specially prepared for an outdoor shoot outside the convention hall. Since it was outside Firefly ACG Expo, nighttime outdoor conditions were relatively limited, so the overall ensemble favored high-contrast color blocking: the classic combination of a white top, dark blue pleated skirt, and red neckerchief presented crisp, vivid dimensions under streetlamps and fill lights.
First, let's talk about the costume details. The short-sleeved Sailor suit has a slim-fit cut, with white lines tracing the edge of the sailor collar to echo the navy blue base. The red neckerchief on the chest serves as the visual anchor of the outfit; when shooting, I intentionally tied the knot slightly loose, letting the two long tails drape naturally to add an airy, fluttering grace when walking. The lower half was paired with a navy pleated skirt, accented with a slender black leather belt around the waist to cinch the waistline and add a crisp, capable edge. The item I was most pleased with was that pair of lace-trimmed over-the-knee White stockings; the lace trim at the cuffs transitioned seamlessly into white chunky-heeled Mary Janes, visually elongating leg proportions and looking exceptionally clean and crisp against the night backdrop.
For the head styling, a black bob wig with straight blunt bangs paired with white fluffy plush ears and a long white furry tail behind transformed the collegiate school look into an agile, spirited Kemonomimi girl. In terms of makeup, the focus was on emphasizing the eye makeup and blush, using highlighter to brighten facial planes so the face wouldn't look flat under the nighttime flash.
The location was chosen on a sidewalk next to white traffic guardrails and the street. To enhance prop interaction, I brought a black suitcase along. In Photo 1, I stood naturally with my right hand raised to my chest and my left hand lightly gathering the skirt hem, allowing the camera to capture the complete silhouette of the top and skirt. In Photo 2, I sat directly on the suitcase, pinching the top's hem with both hands to lift it slightly, beautifully accentuating the waist cinch and skirt pleats. Photo 3 was also seated: my right index finger gently tapped my cheek while my legs stretched forward—the premier angle to showcase the White stockings and Mary Janes, creating strong leg extension in a centered, dynamic composition. In Photo 4, I stood up in a kinetic pose lifting one leg while making a playful hand gesture, bringing lively energy while highlighting the fluffy fullness of the tail prop.
The trickiest part of outdoor night shoots is lighting. With dim ambient light, most illumination relied on the photographer's frontal fill light. To prevent the background from dropping into pitch black, we deliberately preserved the bokeh of distant streetlights and passing car traffic, ensuring the subject stood out brightly while retaining the nocturnal city mood. The suitcase was a double win—serving as luggage for outfits and makeup kits, as well as a seat for resting and posing. Although the ensemble was rich in elements, the palette was unified across white, blue, and red, keeping it clean even in low-light environments. For friends wanting to capture textured photos outside venues, I recommend pairing dark backgrounds with light-colored subjects and interacting with props—the hit rate will be remarkably high.
