During this China International Comics Festival trip, the Touhou Project Seiga Nyannyan cosplay was the outfit I prepared for the longest. To make those two iconic circular buns on top of my head, I researched wig trimming methods in advance. The hair strands need to be fluffy yet not frizzy, and the bangs need to be carefully styled with a flat iron to maintain a natural curve. The hair bun at the top of the wig required shaping wire as a skeleton and was firmly fixed with hairpins so it wouldn't collapse in shape during a day of walking around. In terms of makeup, to match the character's detached and slightly mysterious temperament, I chose bright blue contact lenses, blended the eye area with reddish eyeshadow, and kept the blush from being too heavy to retain the translucent look of the original skin tone. The lips used a glossy texture, making the overall makeup look more layered. The deep cyan lace choker on the neck is the finishing touch of the entire styling, with a width just right to modify the neck line, but it must fit closely when worn without being crooked, otherwise the overall effect will be greatly reduced.
The wearing of the apparel is very particular. This blue-and-white color scheme apparel blends Traditional Chinese style cosplay and fantasy elements, and it has many layers when worn. The inner white collar has pink floral embroidery, and the wide sleeves of the outer cover required two people to help put on smoothly. The peacock blue brocade fabric spliced at the cuffs has a lot of weight, and the golden lace and heavy embroidery embedded at the edges require special attention to avoid pulling threads. The cross-lacing on the chest and the metal tassel pendant at the waist need to be carefully fixed to ensure they won't shift during the shooting process. The skirt on the lower body has complex plant jacquard patterns, and the white lace lining at the bottom of the skirt hem rubs slightly when walking; to prevent stepping on the skirt hem, I kept lifting the side fabric slightly with my hand while walking.
During the outdoor location shooting, the texture of the natural light hitting the fabric was exceptionally good, but at the same time, it placed higher demands on the poses. The wide-sleeved apparel easily folds into unsightly wrinkles when waving, so I kept trying to let the sleeves drape into a natural curve by controlling the force of my shoulders and wrists. In the photo holding the white flower prop, my wrist needed to be as relaxed as possible, with my fingers gently pinching the flower stem, so as to present a casual yet exquisite posture. To match the ethereal feel of this styling, the pink-and-white flower hair accessories on the hairstyle also adjusted their positions multiple times to ensure the best effect under light and shadow. Although outdoor activities had many restrictions, the photographer's candid shots were very precise, the light and shadow transition was very soft, and the atmosphere was maxed out.
The final photo results of the convention photos cannot be separated from the preliminary preparation and on-site cooperation. From makeup and hair to apparel details, every step needs to be carefully polished. This cosplay experience also accumulated a lot of wearing experience regarding wide-sleeved apparel and complex wigs, and afterwards I will continue to improve expression management and body control, striving to bring a better visual presentation.
