The convention hall photos are finally ready, and this Hsin outfit was an absolute showstopper at the venue. To authentically capture Hsin's aura from Wuthering Waves, I put a tremendous amount of thought into the styling, makeup, and posing.
First, regarding the outfit: the patchwork of materials is quite elaborate, where contrasting red, black, and blue tones trimmed in gold showed off an amazing texture under the convention's harsh lighting. The top features an off-the-shoulder cut, so securing the back lacing and front metallic charms required extra care to prevent shifting or slips while moving around. The trickiest part was definitely the pair of massive white beast ears; to ensure they stood upright yet looked natural, I engineered several discreet support structures inside the wig. The wig itself was rather hefty, and with crowded halls heating up quickly, I kept a portable mini fan handy to stay cool.
For the makeup, to harmonize with the red contact lenses, I emphasized a red gradient at the outer corners of my eyes paired with a sharp, slightly aloof wing, which made my gaze pop vividly on camera. The lighting at convention centers can be notoriously chaotic; if the makeup isn't pigmented enough, photos easily turn out washed out—a convention lesson I'm sure many fellow cosplayers know well.
I absolutely loved the set this time: intricately carved wooden screens, scattered bamboo leaves, porcelain teacups, and antique scrolls immediately set a refined, classical mood. When posing, I deliberately took off my shoes to step barefoot across the wooden benches and stone floors, with the delicate red cord around my ankle serving as a subtle accent. To showcase the high-slit design of the garment, I tried a high single-leg bend pose. This movement really tested my core stability—engaging both the abs and lower back while keeping the posture upright was essential to achieve a smooth, natural leg line. Additionally, keeping the outer thigh slightly engaged ensured the contours photographed beautifully.
When shooting with friends, we always discussed angles beforehand. For seated shots, turning slightly to the side or crossing my legs accentuated feminine curves while allowing the camera to capture the flowing drape of the skirt. Hands couldn't be stiff either; incorporating delicate hand seals or gentle finger gestures alongside expressive glances added narrative depth to every frame.
Compared to full studio shoots, convention hall photography comes with lighting constraints, yet the vibrant, live energy is something a studio can rarely replicate. Even though the venue had some industrial undertones, thoughtful prop placement and shallow depth of field preserved the classical fantasy atmosphere seamlessly. Every convention cosplay is physically demanding—from early morning makeup to navigating crowded halls for clear angles—but seeing the finished shots makes all the adjustments and fatigue completely worthwhile.
For anyone wearing similarly complex costumes at conventions, always bring plenty of safety pins and double-sided tape for on-the-fly fixes. As for poses, practicing weight distribution in front of a mirror helps you look effortless on camera. Personally, I'm thrilled with how these Hsin photos turned out; the depth of the garment and its synergy with the set matched everything I envisioned.
