[Chisa cosplay] Wuthering Waves Creative Incentive, Attempting a Techwear Sailor Suit Shoot in a White Studio

This set of Chisa cosplay work was shot in a pure white shadowless studio environment, which is also my first time attempting a studio shoot with this character. I have previously seen many studio shoot works by other fellow cosplayers and learned a lot of ideas regarding lighting, posing, and prop interaction. This time can be considered as putting into practice the ideas that have been brewing in my mind for a long time.

First, talking about the choice of the studio environment, a pure white background is indeed a foundational scene that severely tests character styling and action design. Previously, I was quite worried that a pure white background would make the image look monotonous, so we incorporated some clever details into the clothing and props. Chisa's outfit as a whole is based on a deep navy blue sailor suit, paired with a very eye-catching wide sailor collar and a bright red neckerchief, forming a strong contrast visually so it won't appear washed out due to high-key lighting. The jacket is the soul of this match—a greyish-blue casual jacket with some techwear design elements, along with multiple straps and buckles, adding a lot of sharpness to the originally well-behaved sailor suit. During the shoot, we intentionally emphasized the layered look of putting on and taking off the jacket, such as wearing it halfway, draping it over the shoulders, or letting it down completely, which greatly enhanced the extension of the movements.

In terms of props, this red and black greatsword is truly a major highlight. Although it took a lot of effort to pick up, holding it in hand instantly transforms my aura. If the sense of force in the sword-holding action is insufficient, it easily makes the weapon look like it's floating in the air, so I tried many sword-holding postures, including resting it on my shoulders, holding it vertically with both hands, and placing it by my legs. Paired with black over-knee long stockings and thick-soled loafers, the lines of my legs were nicely extended in front of the lens. There was actually a small episode during the shoot: because the white studio uses high-key lighting, overexposure or missing details can easily occur. Special thanks to the photographer for their patient guidance, helping me find the best balance point between highlight control and shadow proportion.

In the early stages, we also referenced many professional models' editorial poses instead of simply posing in stiff standing positions, but rather combined them with the cylindrical platforms and gaming chairs in the scene to create a more slice-of-life interactive feel. For example, when sitting on the cylindrical platform, stretching out the legs naturally or crossing them, paired with the natural drooping curve of the jacket, brings dynamism to the frame while retaining part of Chisa's cold and detached character trait. Since this shoot was mainly intended to present some practical pose references, the composition includes close-up shots, full-body extensions, and even snapshot expressions of the powerful moment when holding the sword. The red eye makeup for the red pupils and a strand of red ribbon in the hairstyle can be counted as a crowning touch, breaking up the dullness brought by the straight black hair and adding a touch of bright color to the frame.

Finally, speaking of the shooting atmosphere, the cooperation with the photographer was extremely smooth. There was no need to deliberately force exaggerated poses; many small micro-adjustments could present a great texture under the lights. This mix-and-match of techwear and a sailor suit is truly perfect for a white studio photoshoot. I am very satisfied with the final images brought by post-processing cropping and color grading. This trip has allowed me to accumulate a lot of white studio shooting experience, and I should be able to handle it even more adeptly when shooting similar styles next time.
