My overall experience checking in at TGS can be summed up in a few key phrases: surging crowds, the rise of indie games, and a few subtle fashion touches. Starting with my outfit, I went with a black-and-grey striped Gothic style outfit, layered under a cropped black cardigan and accessorized with a black choker accented by metallic chains. To bring extra dimension to the silhouette, I also paired it with black fingerless gloves. For the lower half, I opted for over-the-knee Black stockings bearing cross motifs alongside platform shoes; considering the marathon walks across the convention halls all day, this combination not only resonated with the hardcore gamer aesthetic of the expo, but also offered far superior comfort compared to high heels. A sleek black bob with blunt bangs lent a crisp, sharp edge to the entire aesthetic, drawing plenty of double takes as I traversed the exhibition floors.
Turning to the expo itself, the absence of major domestic studios meant there weren't many instantly jaw-dropping mega-booths, leaving the overall booth staging a bit short on stunning visual punch. Major AAA publishers played it quite safe, showcasing mostly iterative updates that lacked that magnetic spark to make attendees linger for long stretches. However, the indie games area showcased numerous stellar gems—their creativity and core gameplay mechanics were exceptionally inventive. A handful of niche puzzle and action titles kept me hooked for quite a while, and the hands-on demos left a lasting impression; the sheer passion of indie developers injected genuine vibrancy into the entire event.
Business Day felt noticeably more packed this year, which suggests the public general admission days will be absolute scrums. Long queues snaked in front of almost every popular booth, and the rest lounges were completely occupied. In such dense crowds, properly demoing a title or speaking with booth staff demands considerable physical stamina. Best of luck to everyone attending from tomorrow onwards!
