This Shigure Ui cosplay shoot was set in a classroom scene, with an overall vibe leaning toward quiet, everyday routine. The outfit is a classic dark grey striped sailor suit with a red-and-white striped collar and cuffs, a blue necktie at the collar, and a matching dark grey pleated skirt—the color scheme faithfully restores the character. The red beret on my head features white pom-poms on both sides that gently bob as I move. The wig is shoulder-length golden-blonde hair, with a delicate braid woven on the left temple. To stay true to the character, I wore turquoise-green contact lenses, focusing the makeup on wide blush blending around the eyes and cheeks using pinkish tones, topped with a subtle glossy lip glaze.
We prepared several props for the shoot, such as a black tablet, a white pencil case, and a smartphone, with authentic Japanese notes written in the notebook. The red leather backpack felt high quality and instantly brought out the schoolgirl vibe once worn. For legwear, I styled red thigh-highs with a black strap leg harness adorned with a white pom-pom, paired with chunky black platform loafers; despite the many accessories, they harmonized seamlessly.
The classroom setting is perfect for capturing this slice-of-life aesthetic. We picked a room with wooden window frames and wall paneling, where warm golden light poured through the windows, creating a cozy contrast against the dark wood desks and floorboards. To fit the scene, I tried various poses—resting my chin in one hand while gazing out the window, holding a pen to write in the notebook, standing beside the desk carrying the backpack, and sitting on the floor looking at scattered markers and chalk boxes.
Throughout the shoot, to ensure natural lighting and authentic expressions, we waited until the afternoon when the light was at its softest. I also put effort into my gaze and posture to convey that slightly lazy, relaxed demeanor reminiscent of student days. For example, when sitting on the floor to showcase the skirt pleats and leg lines, I constantly adjusted my center of gravity and angles so the pose looked relaxed without appearing stiff. We shot for around four hours, from staging to lighting adjustments, and only performed subtle color grading in post-processing to preserve the natural warmth of the light.
Sorting through these photos reminded me that the greatest joy of cosplay is bringing 2D characters into three-dimensional reality through wardrobe, makeup, and photography. Preparing every tiny detail takes time, yet it brings an incredible sense of achievement. From styling the wig and ironing the garments to placing each prop, every single step requires careful preparation.
